I think Morbid Angel needs to really step it up for whatever their "I" album will be. "Enshrined By Grace" was the only song I could get into on that cd. Gateways had a few good ones but not really as good as the first 4 MA cd's.
Six Feet Under = but a lot of DM bands are like that. Try listening to Total Rusak, thats some heavy shit there.

I've yet to hear the new MA album. As for their others, Gateways is my favorite. I can't get into the "vibe" or the early ones.
And SFU is crap, but they're popular, so i guess it explains their appearance here.

I know they started grind, but concidering they were that big of an influance in that genre and then they crossed over to death. So Im going to say Napalm Death.

We've got a lot to thank Napalm for, since they pioneered blast-beats.

I love Immolation but I don't think they were important in keeping the scene alive. 5 years between albums dosent really keep the scene booming.

nah man.... SFU are like 1/1000th of what Hate Eternal are.... But the new HE did suck ass... their album Conquering The Throne was my fav because it was the only heavy album they made, the other album was just raspy guitars and a hih pitched growling recquiring a shit load of cigarette smoking. I hated the new album, oh and back to SFU... All their albums suck!
They need to listen to better bands to get influence from like new Corpse Fucking Art, Impaled, Haemorhagge, Gore Trade, Internal Suffering, Retch, old Bloodchurn, and Lust Of Decay.
Even thought LOD ain't been in the scene for a long time, I appreciate that they keep their shit real without watering down anything. I hope their new album is going to be awesome as the previous one.

hehe, erm, sorry. yes, they released "Seven Churches" in 85, and another album in 87. After that, just scattered demos.
Oh yeah, i forgot malevolent creation and immolation.

Same list for me that you all posted...
Can anyone explain why SFU sucks?
Is it like in: *true* black metal needs to be fast and anti-christian, so anything very melodic or with a keyboard is gay?
Then... Only lightning fast, *brutal* and supertechnical deathmetal is good, everything else sucks?
please tell me that's not why... At least they succeeded in having an own style and being good at it. There are also tons of bands in the Malevolent Creation style, that ain't nothing special either.

About SFU, oh yeah they do bore me out, actually they make me fall asleep because they're so damn slow. I mean, whats the whole point of death metal being slow, it started out fast and thats how it should be, I'm not saying bands should blast beat 24/7 in all their songs but at least it should be fast like old death during good ol' scream bloody gore, I mean we guys are so used to death metal being fast that after hearing a slow ass death metal band, we get bored really quick.

No no. Not all death metal needs to be brutal, fast, etc. I love melodic black and black metal with keyboards. True black metal need not be anti christian. Black Metal need be grim and frostbitten, like immortal or dissection. Thats all.
Death metal is a very fickle genre. You can have a slow death metal song every now and then; but it does get boring and repetative if thats the only kind of songs you play. I like variety.
SFU only have one good song in my opinion: Victim of the Paranoid!!!
And yes, Chris Barnes has done so much for death metal, its not even funny. The guy is a cunt, but shit, you cant deny what he has done. But Chuck Shuldiner pioneered the genre into many things. Point blank.

Yeah, if you're gonna play death metal the fast parts have got to be insane and the slow parts have got to pack a brutal groove.
Despite this, as Dissection said, Chris Barnes was integral to the death metal scene.
Maybe SFU would play faster if they employed people to stand behind them and crack some enormous whips at their arses! That would get them into top gear!

it doesnt seem that anyone has heard GoS. They are very melodic death. It is mainly the vocals that creates the death feel, but even they consider themselves death metal

So you must really dislike bands with continuous brutality and speed all the way because they don't switch to something slower/else now and then, because that is the only kind of songs they play?

I just signed up , it's nice to see a couple of farmiliar faces from UG on here, lol
In regards to the thread topic, I agree that Napalm Death are one of the most important bands in the death metal genre, not so much that they are death metal themselves , but that they influenced the genre.
Morbid Angel and Obituary are the two bands for me that really sum up the Florida death metal sound and created really solid albums. People talk a lot about Death and Cryptopsy , but I haven't heard them , being relatively new to the genre.
Bands that will carry on the genre in my opinion are Nile , who give DM a new twist with the "Egyptian" sound and lyrics and the Bezerker, who give it an industrial edge.

New kid:
You NEED to check out death. They are pretty much one of the bands responsible for all of the death metal we have now. Also, check out some Cryptopsy. Their old work is their best.
List of shit to check out:
Malevolent Creation (roadrunner compilation or the Ten Commandments)
Vital Remains and Deicide
Quo Vadis (TOP PRIORITY) <--- this goes for anyone who hasnt heard them. Quo Vadis are not your run of the mill death metal band. They fucking own you.
more later, i have to think.

No, that isnt true. i like a brutal song as much as the next person, but i was just saying. With some bands, it gets old and boring.

I'd love to contribute, but every band has been mentioned on the first page.

I'd love to check out Death , does anyone know where I can buy their cd's cheap online for shipping in the UK?
I've had a look on Amazon and similar ones ,but they don't have anything. With other bands I sometimes buy cd's direct from the label , but I don't know which label Death were on .
If anyone wants to get some cheap cds in the UK check out the Earache website ( www.earache.com ) . Lots of their cds re only about £8.00 - £9.00 including postage and packaging. There is a US version on the store as well , but I can't comment on the prices on that one because I didn't look , but I imagine hey'd be similar.

Check out coprodirect. Here's the link for Death
http://www.coprodirect.com/advanced...&sort=1a&page=2
The prices aren't REALLY cheap (~£11-12) but still cheaper than the local HMV. You can get some albums there for around £8-9, you've just got to look for them.
The Earache site is great. Also try
www.goldenlakeprods.co.uk
They've got some great death metal titles at great prices (£2-11) although no Death CD's unfortunately.
With the exchange rate the way it is at the moment (you get around $1.75 for £1, so a $14 CD is £8) it might be worth checking out American sites. If you buy a few CD's from the one site you'll probably still make a saving. You'll just have to wait 4-6 weeks for your CD's.

The drummer needs to tune his kit on "Infesting the Exhumed", it sounds like a hobo beating the shit out of a trashcan with a nine-iron.

Dude, Retch are awesome, I met those mofos at Amoeba music... Well good luck making a split with them. Oh and as for LOD, well the drums do need to be tuned but they sound pretty cool on some of the fills and rolls.

Thanks.
The drums sound awful: but he's still a great drummer nonetheless.
