getting extension cab..

i've got a yamaha dg80-112, and im looking for a 2x12 to put below it. it seems that most people don't have much experience with the yamaha dg line.. it's a very versatile digital modeling amp with solid-state analog. if you've seen the line 6 and think modeling is crap, well, check out the dg lines, because they're unbelievably clear. unfortunately, the 80 watts go into a single 12" speaker, so i'd like another pair of 12s to get it pretty loud.

any suggestions for rather versatile speakers that would nicely compliment the 8-amp modeling of this combo? does it really matter as far as speakers go? i haven't gone and hooked my amp up to a bunch of cabs, mostly because im weak and lazy, but maybe i'll go do that soon.. since i've never bought a cabinet before, and i'd really like to go test a bunch of them out.

Hey,

I have the Dg130 Head, and I run it through a 4x12 X-Audio cab. It douns fine with me, but I wish I had a cab with Celestions in it. So thats what I'd suggest to you. That or buy a Marshall 1960 cab because theyre awesome.

yah im definitely lookin for celestion speakers.. my 1x12 is one. does the brand that put it all together really matter? yamaha made a sweet 1x12 that even matches my dg80, looks like they marketed them together at one point, but they're all discontinued, which blows! the dg line is so awesome, too..

ive never bought a cab like i said before, though, so does the name that's on the box matter, as long as they've got the celestions i want?

I dont think what name is on really matters but having a reputable name would be good as you know you are getting quality, marshall make very robust cabs, they take a hell of a beating (mine has) and they still work.... I didnt know yahama made cabs ... they make good stuff so im sure they would be a good bet too. You should really try Ebay cause you could find the cab u actually want: i dunno if this is any good to ya??? dg 100 digital

will the brand on the cabs have any effect on the sound produced? i like my combo right now because it's so versatile, and i dont want the standard marshall sound. seems like all that would matter as far as sound goes are the speakers, so anything with good celestions would be alright?

that dg100 is good.. but i've got the same thing with just one 12" speaker, so getting that wouldn't help me too much. all i need is a cabinet to output to so that my dg80 will be able to rock.. although i've heard even my 80 watt 1x12 can drown out a drum set..

Its the brand of speakers that make the difference in sound NOT the brand on the cabinet. Sure half closed cabinets will sound different and blah blah blah but the speaker are what makes up msot of the sound. Just get a peavey those are built strong as hell and there decent priced

alrighty, i think this'll be the last question, then.. unless i start wondernig what material to get the wires made out of :P

how many of you have lots of experience with celestions? my combo has a g12h-100, but all i'm seeing are g12t-x's, so would i notice a difference between g12h and g12t? id kinda prefer to get the same exact speakers, but since yamaha discontinued their matching cab, i dont know. anybody have a clue if they'd be noticably different?

if you're in the U.S. check out www.avatarspeakers.com they make great cabs, 1x12's 2x12's,4x12's, and they'll load them with what ever celestion or eminence speakers you want, a mesa cab with 4 celetion vintage 30's would cost you like $800 american, while an avatar one with the same speakers would cost you like $500. i would highly recomend an avatar cab.
they also make bass cabs n' shit too. check em' out.

you could ask them if they'd make you one with a half open back, and if not, i'd imagine it wouldn't be to hard to make it yourself .
and fyi, mesa recto cabs don't have half open backs, or at least the 4x12s don't. you might be thinking of another line of mesa cabs, i can't remember the name, but they're discontinued i beleive. and the ones like that i've seen didn't have v30s like the recto cabs do, which may or may not be a problem for you depending on what speakers you want.

You might want to look into a cab with a dampening switch. That way you can set your speakers to be tight or loose.

It sets how your speakers respond. Like if you have it at loose, your sound will be loose with bass end kind of flubbering all around, if you have it on tight your sound will be very tight. It basicly refers to how the speakers physicly respond.

does it physically loosen the cone.. or does it do something to the signal?

i dont know why on earth i'd want my cones flubbering around, though

my celestion speaker seems to sound quite good without that
