Death Metal Album Prices
Since I can remember, death metal albums have always been more expensive
than the other stuff out there.
I live in Canada, and our prices for any decent metal is over $30 with tax.
It's a joke. It bothers me because when you compare my collection to
someone elses, they have like three times more music. I say three times
more because they have the 'mainstream' stuff in their collection (not that
I would even buy it). Mainstream stuff is like $15 or 2 for $20.
I know when I buy a death metal album that I am getting quality, no doubt
about it. I know that there is a smaller market out there for it as well.
What is the price for death metal anywhere else around the world. Here
in Canada, as a comparison, you need to work as a dishwasher for over
5 hours (after taxes) to be able to buy a $30 cd.
What's your opinions? Let me know so I can rant a little more.

thats fucking expensive man, damn...
any album is like 20 bucks here (american)
but metal and hardcore cd's go for anywhere between 10-20 bucks, I bought an Obituary cd two weeks ago for 12 bucks.
I think you're just beeing fucked there.
maybe you're paying 'moose' tax or something!

Man I just got Cannibal Corpse's Vile CD (the cencored version, because HMV could only get that one), and It was 35 bucks with tax. But the biggest rip off is the In Flames R.T.R. jap. import 50 BUCKS+TAX!!!
But any where in Canada Death Metal CD's are going to be alot of cash. I should do what my brother does. Get'em off EBAY there like 5 bucks, and there not burnt!

www.willowtip.com $8 and $10 new cds with free shipping to North America. I love these guys and can't say enough good about them. they are the good people who released the "Halls of Amenti" mcd by Cephalic Carnage. And you gte your package shipped the day after you order it, so being in the same state as them (PA) I get my stuff in 2 days. I love Willowtip.

Holy shit. Fearfrost...please tell me you didn't buy that fucking 50$ CD, thats insane. My advice for the people in Canada is to just order offline.
Willowtip is cheap...but they usually don't have many good albums. The only ones I found their where Circle of Dead Children and Halls of Amenti. Relapse.com has lots of sales on their arists. Also Ebay...that place fucking rules.

i dont know if Children Of Bodom are considered main stream, but here in quebec i picked up something wild for 22$, not to expensive considering its a pretty good cd. and ive found a couple of places in montreal that sell them for decent prices, it has something to do with them being unkown and stuff, obviously if you something like metallica ( black album on sale for 10$) then it costs less cause you sell more and your gonna make more anyway cause of the insanely high ticket prices for their stupid gay shows with nothing but nu-metal so their new shit doesnt seem to god damn bad, haha sorry bout the ranting. but i'd rather pay a little more for some decent metal and not have to burn a whole in my wallet for some tickets

Yeah, I was reading a financial newspaper today and it said that the EuroDollar is very strong. That's crazy man. You are getting raped in more than one hole paying that kinda Euro.
I totally agree with buying online from now on. It's easier and I don't have to leave home to go to a store full of crap nu crap. The last one I bought was the "Heretic" double album. It was a real deal compared to the store prices around here. I do graze pawn shops occasionally but all the good stuff doesn't stay for long.
When I was younger, online buying wasn't too popular so I had to go through music stores and hence, outrageous prices.
Like MetalMilitant said about Montreal, I think it's a hotspot for good metal and that's why those prices make more sense. The last time I was in Montreal, I went to the Medley to watch Morbid Angel and Motorhead. It was packed with deadheads. It really thrives (so it seemed to me) over there.
The next move for me is to buy some of Death's Live DVD's...Online for sure!

metal DVD prices are even worse here in kangaroo land
a simple, easily availible DVD is $30 (e.g. slayer)
a real metal DVD (such as Death live in LA or the Carcass one) costs me $55
(all in $AU)

Willowtip is small so they sell out of popular stuff real fast. Sometimes they only get 10 of a certain cd at a time. I usualy order stuff when they send out the newsletter with all the new arrivals.

yeah the medley always does pretty well, i know bodom sold out twice there, but i think metal bands are hitting the montreal a little more these days then they used, i know since the exploited riot the punk shows have dropped a little. i'm gonna have to try that online ordering stuff with all this pirating nonesense its little surprise theres an increase, besides its better to buy albums, the smaller bands need suppourt, a shame cause a lot of good unknown bands die out cause they never sell records, to bad really
