Crap sound, need listeners and advice

Ok...

http://users.skynet.be/fa299107/soundcheck.mp3

1/ The riff is not one that I found out.

2/ I need to find a good blackmetal sound for fast/pagan/folk/... blackmetal, all kinds of stuff.

3/ My gear is a Boss GT-6 and Jackson Kelly. I know the sounds suck on the sample, I like the first one of the two but it's not "complete". Any tips for gain/EQ/settings/.... for improvement? Thank you.

uhm... could you provide us with the settings your where using then?
well.. your first sample was not that bad... you probbably want an harsher sound, so i would guess you need to add a little bit of bass to your sound.. not too much tough... also, try to lower the mid frequency a bit if your e.q.ing allows this... if not, i'd suggest spending some money on an eq pedal (this is probably the best $$$ you can spend to sound better if you dont have it)

most bm bands also use a slight reverb and/or delay fx, but you already knew this right?

Ok thanks...

This sample was without any reverb/chorus/delay, I wanted to start as basic as possible

I will add some bass and see for some reverb and such.
I can definitely change my EQ (even "sub EQ" on the GT6 but I didnt use it here).

Just gimme some time (since I"m in lack of it).

Oh...

Well... I take my mono line out on the Boss GT6 (the same I use for my amp).

I plug in in the back of my computer, I think in the microphone thingy.

Then I record using Cool Edit pro, using a "mono" track, since "stereo" sounds totally raped because I play mono.

I was just working on my sound now

Ok man, here are two new recordings, the second one is the best I think.

http://users.skynet.be/fa299107/soundcheck2.mp3
http://users.skynet.be/fa299107/soundcheck3.mp3

The old one is still at
http://users.skynet.be/fa299107/soundcheck.mp3

My previous settings:

Gain 35
Bass 34
Mid 19
High 52
No chorus, no reverb, but extra EQ added to that.

Current settings soundcheck 2:

Gain 35
Bass 30
Mid (about) 40
High 52
Reverb (50/100). Add. EQ changed (bass and mid down, high up) AND 'high gain mode' on.

Current settings soundcheck 3:

Gain 35
Bass 30
Mid (about) 40
High 52
Reverb (50/100). Still the same add. EQ from first sample AND 'high gain mode' on

I think this new sound is a bit to thick, no? It could be colder/tighter...
Your suggestions? I'll put you on my thanklist on the demo, lol.

hmm, the sound sounds a little weak on both samples, maybe its just the recording quality, try to give a little more bass it sounds though. how does that gt-6 pedal work? worth the asking price, im thinking of getting one if i can get a fucking job first, damn me and my laziness

Oh well.. Boss GT6 is a great processor... a huge load of options and stuff... just check it out in a store (but you need time to find the best things).

By the way, this sound is somewhat better, I was told by several people.
I played some riffs of Mayhem but they are very crappy played, it was the first time I ever played them, lol.

How about it?

I have a little pedal (without the pedal part ) that changes the volume and tone of my sound. It works wonders, try finding one. It's a DOD Studio Bifet Preamp/410. It's really old and will require a special adapter if you don't use 9 volts any more.

i listened to the mayhem soundcheck bullshitter, and from that sound i would boost the mids a bit more, lower the bass slightly and add in some more highs, that is if you are playing in a band setting, it will sound way better then, if your just fucking around by yourself, just boost the mids and mid freq. a bit, and maybe lower the gain ever so slightly, you dont want an overly saturated sound, just enough gain to get a good crunch w/o compromising clarity, listen to old man's child for some good black metal sounds
