Wireless

Hey guys, I need some advise on wireless systems. I have no idea what Im lookin for. I saw these ones on musicians friend if you could have a look and see if theres one you reckon would be good? I can only judge by price, assuming the more u pay the better the product. But as I say I know nothing about them,, like the frequencies, what is good? I play alot of gigs in dif size venues and I dont want a Taxi rank comin though my amp!!!!! Anyway heres a link to the page, your opinions would be much appreciated. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...r/search/c=4633

I saw the WMS GB 40 Guitar Bug Wireless System bring used at a show once. I knew the guy and he said that is a good system to use. And so far it hasnt picked up any radio frequecies off of it in middle of the show. The size show that I saw him in was a show with about 300 people.

When it comes to wireless units you basicly get what you pay for. If you use one, bring along a regular cord, and check out teh venue and make sure there is nothing that would interfere with the signal. Personally I could not reason spending that type of money for something like that.

Your best bet is Shure.

And a few reasons

a.) some people, somehow, trip over their guitar cords. (dumbasses who mosh around)
b.) probably easier than unplugging your guitar every time you dont want to play with your amp on; like me.
c.) It probably doesnt put off as much interference as a normal cable would. But instead of spending 250 on the bug, just buy a few Monster Cables, if C is your reason.

Other than that, i cant see much of a reason.

the only guitarists i ever saw using wireless where in nu-metal bands, they where the only i saw moshing around so much.... but that shouldn't be a reason of not getting them (just because nu-metal ppl have them)

for practice and recording, i just use cables, no matter how much you pay for a wireless, its gonna affect your tone, i mainly use my bug for live performance because on small or even big stages when me and my band are moshing out, i don't want one of them to trip over something of unplug shit.
i do mosh out when i play, quite a bit to be honest, call it stupid and trendy, but to each his own right?
don't just think you need a wireless to be "pro" or anything, if i were in a different style of band, i'd probably say "fuck that" and just play with a cord.
sometimes, like when its storming and shit wireless units cut out and do some weird shit, so i always have a big long cable and plenty of duct tape for those situations.
and as for the tone problem, i have an aural exciter and a graphic eq to boost my tone so its all good.

Exactly Zakk Wylde just uses a 50 foot monster cable, but of course he dosent hop around like a retarded monkey on crack onstage... and noone should. If you headbang i dont see how u can just trip over a cable. Cables are cheaper and sound better (unless its like a 5 dollar cable)

my band doesnt just chill and headbang though, our stage presence is rough, raw and crazy, with fists, headstocks, and microphones flying around and the crowd doing whatever they might feel like doing, so i don't want anything to go wrong.
but cables do usually sound better which is why i usually use them, just not on stage.

My band covers lots of Dying Fetus and Carcass so Im usualy to busy concentrating on my playing to worry about trying to have a stage presence. Moderate headbanging is about all I do. I also do the low growls so I cant stray to far from the mic anyway.

Carcass kicks ass, i rather have a good performance sound wise with few errors than a performance with a bunch of fools hopping around and fuckin up the easiest riffs. Im too busy moshing to look at the stage anyways

i'm just used to playing while i swing my guitar around and shit, we practice like that. so mess ups are rare. we don't do covers, i'd rather just play my own songs anyways. plus a can't sing or growl for shit, occasionally i might scream in the middle of a song, but its not much. i feel that when i get into the music i either mess up less, or nobody notices because everyones into the music. i'm not in a deathmetal band though, more of a melodicore/grindcore band, theres still alot of blast beats and fast shit, but its just different music and style. but like i said, if i were in a cannibal corpse style band that i just stood and headbanged to, there wouldn't really be a need for a wireless.

hmm

Thanks guys, I wreckon Im gonna get one anyway. I saw a nice Shure one on another site, its rack mounted and a very reasonable price. If Ive had enough to drink (not drunk) and I have a little dutch courage I do get into it an hop about a bit but hey its all fun. I dont think Ive ever yanked the lead out, but still the idea of that kind of freedom to wander around without fear of band mates standing on my leads is enough.

Isnt that a bit of an oxymoron?

We play orginals also, but they are technical death metal like the mentioned bands. I just used the bands we covered so I could get accross my point that I can't really be doing backflipps while playing the intro to "Pissing in the Mainstream"

i wouldnt say its an oxymoron, but more on the lines of trying something new.
like put a death metal guy on drums, a screamo/hardcore kid on guitar, a grindcore freak on bass, and a thrashpunkscreamy style vocalist..... that probably doesnt explain shit for anybody, only confuses them, but when we record i might put up some shit.
and i get what you mean about the doing backflips mid solo and shit, thrashing around isnt for every style of music, and especially isnt for certain parts of songs.
