melodic riffs

how do you make a guitar riff melodic from a natural scale. use Amajor for example

a b c# d e f# g# a
how would i go about making that melodic?

Use major modes and use clean with chorus and delay maybe

one way is play a random set of notes from the scale & then harmonize it.

or play any riff from the scale notes & top it with a melodic lead line...that'll automatically make the riff sound melodic. (e.g. the chorus melody/riff in norther's mirror of madness)

A major isn't molodic...melodic is a minor scale...accending, from 1-5 is a natural minor and 6-8 makes it sound major with the raised 6 and 7, and decending the 6 and 7 are lowered to make the natural minor. That's melodic....go off of that.

The A melodic minor scale is: a b c d e f# g# a, g f e d c b a
The F# melodic minor scale is: f# g# a b c# d# e# f#, e d c# b a g# f#
(...the relative minor of Amajor)

hey thanks a lot. this thread should be sticky because im sure theres a lot of people who would like to play melodic metal and probably dont know where to start, this was very helpful
