Mayve a noise gate opens when u set a certain threshold and a suppressor just cuts everything from a certain point down??? I dunno..... but thats my 2 cents.......

seems to me like your explanation of the suppressor would use a threshold to be set for it to cut everything down, too. thanks, though.

I know a noise supressor is used against humming. I think a noise gate is the same thing, but to say the least, I'm not sure. I've heard of some problems with noise supressors totally cutting out a note in solos and the such, which would suck for a long sustained note.
