Player/Starter Packs?
ESP M10 Player Pack <--- Check this out!
Some friends and I for lack of better things to do started a band awhile ago. The only problems are our drummer went away to college and the bassist and I only have acoustics right now. I'm going to get an eletric sometime after Christmas (in hopes that they will for some reason be cheaper). People have told me not to get a starter pack because they are very shity. Other people have said they are the best thing a beginer can get. Well we generally are going to play grunge metal. This pack is supposedly made for metal. It looks comfortable to play and I'm guessing it's fairly light (it's supposed to be a good guitar for girls too). So if some of you could check it out and tell me if you think it's a decent guitar or not it would be greatly appreicated. Also if you know any other good packs or if I should just stay away from them.
Thanks

I've been playing guitar now for about 5 years i'd say......anyways, i remember back in the day before i got my first one, i wasn't sure what to get. Which brand? What price range? What style? Starter packs?
Well, i was interested in a few starter packs mainly for one reason.....the price. Like this ESP set, the ones i checked out were all cheap (400$ or less). Otherwise, the packs never attracted me much.
Now that i've been playing for a while and know more about guitars...i don't recommend getting one UNLESS you:
1. Are extremely poor.
2. Don't mind playing through a 15 watt amp which will never sound good.
3. Don't mind having a guitar you will probably "outplay" (or outgrow) within a year's time. (<- that is unless you suck ass and never practice......then this might be your best bet)
I suggest buying your amp and guitar seperately. It will cost more.......most likely at least 100$ more than this pack costs, and that's for the crappiest garbage you could find. But if you wait just a tab longer, beg for x-mas money and do whatever else you have to do to get money, you will be much happier buying your shit seperately.
PS. Another thing i dislike very much are Guitar companies that "try" to make amps......hence the ESP amp. Or vice versa......one of the packs i was looking at was a Crate pack.......Crate's a well known amp company.....but for guitars??

Memnoch nailed it. You will outgrow it if your serious about playing. And besides, 100 - possibly 200$ isn't bad to get a much beter guitar and amp. Unless your poor, I woudnt recommend it. Espically if you can't play it and its stuck in the box, no way. A started should find the guitar that suits him/her perfectly.

Since you said you have a acoustic i assume you cna play.... so you will not want a begginer guitar. Boxed guitars ammuse me.... i eman they sell shit like that at walmart. So unless your really poor then i say look around... and shouldnt this be in gear talk???

Fuck that. If you want an ESP go for an MII Deluxe
I doubt you have the $$ for that so a wonderful metal guitar would be a cheaper Ibanez RG model. You won't be disappointed in those. As for an amp, I'd say Peavys are good and god for price. Or you could get one of those Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifire stacks. Which ever...they're both dirt cheap

You should get this guitar. It's great for a gift or for yourself! If you like rock like Kid Rock, you will like this! It's even great for girls! I love this guitar because it was not a lot of money and the sound is great! Thank you Music123! "
hmmm...I change my mind. Go for this pack! \m/

Get the Kerry King pack. I read an interview with him that the neck and shit is nice. Change out the pickups and you'll be ready to go. Plus, I heard LTDs were really bad. I only played one once.

Dude, no matter what starter pack you get, its going to be pure shit. Seriously, the brand name on a starter pack means nothing. They're equal quality but look different.

I went to guitar center about a month ago, I got an Ibanez GAX 70 and a Crate amp pack (it comes with the amp and everything but the guitar). I must say that I am really gald I didn't get a starter pack becase in the amp pack everything but the amp really sucks! The strap falls apart all the time and the zipper on the gig bag gets stuck! The GAX isn't the best guitar in the world but I love the slim neck and the lightweight!

Well, I was in the same predicament for awhile until my buddy said that starter packs suck. As mentioned above, you will outgrow a worthless guitar and it will just sit around once you get a better guitar. Won't sell either. What you pay is what you get. You may as well get a good guitar and a good amp when the time comes.
I only had money for one purchase: I bought a guitar. I have been ampless for close to 4 months. At least i'm still playing guitar. When an amp comes around, I'll buy it. You can always plug into your bandmates amps anyways.

YEAH!!
used shit is the best if you are cheap like me.
But i agree with the rest of the responses here, starter packs are just that, for starters. If you could already play, get something worth your money.
good price range for moderate players is in the 400-600 range.
in my opinion anyway

not all 15 watt amps suck, for the record. i still have my 10 watt dean markley sitting around and bring it into my roommate's room if we're going to jam there.. its a hell of a lot easier than lugging my 80 watt into the living room. you'd be surprised how nice the gain sounds on some little amps.. the only thing they don't have is the loud volume. but if you want to play gigs.. lol dont try a 10 watt.

Gain sounds good on quite amps because when you cranks the volume up its still quiet but u get the full distortion. Crank a half stack its the same thing but with mroe definition and louder

depends on the amp, dude. just like a pedal can make any average rig sound good, some small amps have good hardware in there and just lack the volume. :P

i have a 22 wath combo thats quite nice undistorted good tone... but with volume and gain at max it just overdrives, no big distortion there.... so thats where my metalzone comes in lol...
i dont realy need a bigger amp for myself... but if i'm gonna jam with other people or play in a band, i serously need 50 or 60 waths at least

yah.. most people will want at least a 60 watt amp before long, so you might not even want to get a 10 watter.. just wait for something in the 60 range. i do still use my 10, though, and i've had it for over 8 years now. it sits ontop of my dg80 most of the time though hehe.
