What Went Wrong?
I got a Marshall 50 watt amp head to get better distortion for when I record. It was working great, I had it hooked up to my 2 PA speakers. After a couple weeks though, when I was playing, I smelled a burning smell coming from the amp. I turned everything off and have yet to turn it back on.
Was it because the amp head wasn't meant to hook up to PA speakers? What did I burn in my amp? Is it an easy repair?

kinda doesn't make sense to me, why would the speakers that the amp was outputting to somehow affect the amp?
maybe you just got a bad head, do you have the receipt or warranty?

yeh theres no way the speaker can fuck a head, but the head can fuck up the speakers... so that not the problem. But hell if i know whats wrong.

Hey Buddy
Have someone check your capcitors in your head unit. I have a JCM 800 50 watt Lead head, and the same thing happened to me. I'm not sure how many you've got back there (most likely three)... it cost me thirty bucks per capacitor plus the labour. You'll know they are going if they are 'leaking' around the edges. My head is going on 30 years old... how old is yours? Usually this type of problem is reserved for older heads. Other than that, I have no clue man... hopefully you can get it fixed cheap.

I just bought the head 3 weeks ago, but I declined the warranty (I never get warranties cuz 99% they are a waste of money). The good news is that I have a month to change my mind on the warranty, so tommorow I'm gonna go back up and buy it.

Marshalls should have a free 1 year warranty with buyable years... That is unless you bought it online.

in fact, wrong speakers may fry your amp as well,
check the impedance of your speakers

^he's right^
it wouldnt just be that they're p.a. speakers.
the impedance(ohms) of those p.a. speakers would be the problem.
