What good noise suppressors are there out there? And exactly what bennefits can you gain from using them?

I use Boss pedals. One of them a noise gate. The benefits of using it are that the gate quiets down the hiss from your high gain pedals, ie: distortion or od pedals. When I use it, I find that with the amp and pedals on and not playing, the pedal silences the overdrive hiss and noise you hear. When playing, I don't hear any noise anyway because the gear I use is so loud and compressed. It does a good job for me cleaning things all up and sounding more professional. I favor the Boss noise gate because it doesn't mess with my tone in my set up much at all. Some say different but it works for me. HAIL BOSS.

you could also look into the rocktron hush pedal or rackmount.

Beware, the BOSS Noise Supressor i use cuts into my chunk and solos. My advice is to keep the pedal off until you aren't playing anymore, then turn it on.

i just turn the decay all the way down, and the threshold between noon and 3 o clock.
it doesnt affect my tone. but then again i use my amps distortion. do you use a distortion pedal?
because if its f-ing with your tone, chances are its not the pedal. check the order of your pedals and make sure your cables are all good.
if it still takes away from your tone, you might want to look into something like a sd pickup booster pedal or soemthing in that area. i go wireless live, and that takes from my tone a little, but with my guitar exciter pedal, it sounds better than before.
