customizing strat type guitar

hi guys...

i was just wondering... i have a cheap strat type guitar (it sucks) and i was wondering if i could customize it...

first, i want to get rid of my floating bridge because it messes up my sustain, and i dont like the strat sound it gives...i hardly use whammy, so i couldn't care less about getting rid of it. I've read sites describing the procedure, but i was wondering what you guys think about it.

Second, i'm thinking if i could in a way replace my single coils (terrible sound and hum) with some mean humbuckers... i've read about some guys that did it, but i don't know how (other than guessing where you should make an extra hole )

annyways, thanks, hope you can help me out

you can replace your tremolo, by taking it out, and putting a wood block in that gap, then drilling holes there for strings, then painting over it:

for the pickups, you'll have to route out the area where the the single pickups go, and probably get a new pickguard. you can make your own pickguard from materials here:

for the pu's:
there are humbuckers in single coil format, like malmsteen uses them or te SD Hot Rails, so you won't have to route out areas for regular-sized humbuckers

Or, if you're lucky, your strat has a "full" route, ie not individual routes for each pu, but one big rectangle instead. Then you can just place a hb there, just cut a little in the pickguard.

You are better off buying a body and neck from warmoth and going from there. But the pick up think is real easy to do.
