Is this a good buy? I think so, But I want another opinion.
A buddy of mine want's to sell me his Ibanez guitar for $200. It's got floyd rose hardware, 24 frets, sharkfin inlays, and the new color of '99--Vampire Kiss. I think it's an RG something, discontinued as well I think. I want to play it first of course, cause I've never played an Ibanez before. Is it a good buy?

Yeah, cause I headbang while I do, and I can't really "Jump" (haha ) like VanHalen in a dorm room, so I just walk back and forth....haha a couple days ago I was jumping up and down on my bed, with my pants down and my roommate came in when I wasn't looking, hahaha.

Ibanez is pretty decent... make sure you are okay with changing the strings with the Floyd though ( I find it to be a bit of a pain, especially since I never use my bar!).

sounds nice to me. Rg floyd rosed guitars are really nice.

My Jackson has a Floyd on it...I don't mind the gismos at all. And another bud who owns an RG just told me that anything above a RG500 is good? He also said that anything below that model will go out of tune fast if I do crazy wammy bar stuff  ...and me thinks it's below a RG500.

When you try the guitar, try a final takedown on the guitar and see if it is still in tune

and if you're not fond about the floyd, you can always lock the floyd with a floyd-rose-lock which is pretty gay but if you're gay and you don't like to whammy, you can use that.

which model is it?
rg570? rg470? 
they sell new rgs with licensed floyds' as cheap as $299 ish
so you might not be getting as good of a deal as you think if its a lower model.

also get some active pickups. Mod the guitar and be showing it off on stage.
There are so many things u can do with the money u save by buying that guitar.
I would probably save the money to buy an amp.

what type of "floyd" is it?
you want the Edge Tremolo (which is one of the best on the market, better than an original floyd rose some say), not the Lo-Trs (that'll give you some problems)
usually it'll say Lo-Trs on the tremolo, and nothing on an Edge Tremolo

i looked in this catalog,

but i don't see any RG with sharkfin inlays in Vampire Kiss (except for the 7 string, but no sharkfin inlays, and it would definitely be worth more than 200)
the closest thing to that is Raspberry Red RG270, and $200 is not that reasonable for it, depending on how you like it and what condition it's in. I wouldn't recommend it actually, if it's a 270. RG520 and up are the only ones you wanna get. |
