'cept I don't agree this needed a thread. There is one exactly for this in G. Zone. But hey, what the hell can I do.
*shrug*
...I don't like Jimi Hemdrix.

Oh come on! He was the first to publicise full blown distortion. He was extremely innovated and if it was not for him, garenteed, half of these bands we listen to today would not be around or at least not be where they are today. Now, technically he wasn't the best, but technicality isn't the most important thing in music. Creativity and originality is. Im not saying you have to like him, but at least respect his courage to take it a step up a become a legend in guitar history.

yeah but it just bothers me when people are like "best ever" Most of these people never hear any of the now and day greats. But i do agree he did step it up for his time. But i think now and days there are alot more guitarists that should be appreciated.

DARKO SAID IT LIKE IT IS.
GO ASK VAI, MALMSTEEN, SATCH, PETRUCCI, JOHNSON, OR ANY OTHERS GUITARISTS
OF THE PAST DECADE IF JIMI WAS OVERATED... I REALLY DOUBT YOU'LL GET A "YES HE WAS OVERATED" BY ANY OF THEM
AS SOMEONE SAID THIS THREAD BELONG TO THE GUITAR FORUM... AMEN

and uh, on-topic, hendrix wasn't overrated. ofcourse he's different then today's virtuoso's but I'de like to see hendrix play with a super strat with a floyd and a bunch more frets...

Now, I can some what understand why Arkane would come to this conclusion. When you listen to Jimmy (if you've ever really listen to him) your thinking to much present in your mind then past. Of course there are better guitar players with better distortion and techniques, but thats now . Then, no one had ever dreamed of doing what he did! Just keep that in mind.

yep, i'd say he was God back in his decade, but now there are players that i feel are more creative in this decade, so you can't say he's best ever, maybe in that time period.
his stuff is actually kinda hard to play, if you look at the score, sure it looks easy, but to play it is a different story.
The rhythm of his licks are sort of unconventional,, plus you can't come close to playing them with the same intensity and feel and dynamics (which you could with other guitar players)
on top of that, he sang too.
try the song Red House, and if you could do that, try Little Wing (play em perfectly listening to the record and picking up on his nuances)

Yah, playing Little Wing note for note is not easy. There's a lot of little nuances and chord shapes that would give a lot of guitar palyers some serious challenges.

You hendrix haters who think hendrix isn't one of the the best try to play Hey Joe the whole way threw and sing it. Then if thats not hard enough try castles made of sand. Hendrix is still one of the best in my book, but of coarse times change and sometimes for the better, but no one touched Jimi back in the day and few have surpased him since.

Playin his shit isn't hard. The fact that he inspired most musicians that are successful today says that he should be respected highly.

Jimi
How many of you knew he invented the string gauge? This is true aswell........ : One day he was playin his guitar and decided the strings were too hard (the equivelant of 10's now) and he took the low e off moved all the strings up one and put a voilin string in the high e's place!!! Now thats using your brain!!!!!! Savage guitar player, he is praised too much though. Although he is still savage

I wont say he isnt good. All i will say is Clapton and Page deserve more respect. he is only so well spoken of because he is dead. Alot of people havent even HEARD of Clapton.... and some havent even listened to Led Zep. Damn... people suck sometimes...
Anyone disagree? No. Didnt think so
