What? Mercyful Fate/King Diamond
What's the difference between these two bands? I've checked out
their discography and there's a whack load of albums for both.
I'm gonna do some more reading on the coven website to find out more
http://www.covenworldwide.org/discography.html
What can you guys tell me about these guys? I like their stuff.

Mercyful Fate is a bit more thrash, King Diamond is more theatrical and classical.

Mercyful Fate was first GOOD black metal band IMO. It was one of the first wave black metal bands (eg. Venom, Bathory, Sarcofagó, KAT, Sodom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost etc..). Mercyful Fate's singer, the legendary King Diamond made his own band named King Diamond while Mercyful Fate went to pause for about 5-10(?) years. In 199x Mercyful Fate did come back to record new stuff. I don't really know what they do nowdays. Mercyful Fate have influenced many Dark Funeral style bands; eg. Marduk. Best record from MF might be Don't Break The Oath. And from KD The Eye IMO.
EDIT: Typos

I've noticed with King Diamond, the albums have a theme or "Concept". Some
of KD's stuff is kinda different. He can hit high notes though which gives the
singing some flavour. It would be impossible to sing though (at least for me).
I sat down yesterday and tried to 'crack' the song "Nuns have no fun". I'm
going to try to follow more of this mf/kd stuff.
One main reason for me to learn some of these songs is that Chuck, from
Death, said that mf was one of his influences. Knowing some of Death's songs,
I can totally feel some mf in there.
Not too many tabs on this site though...

Yeah, they have themes.Diamond loves to write stories. In his own band he probably has full control of the direction the album should go as in lyrics and concept. In Mercyfull Fate the band writes more of the stuff.
