Question 7-strings...do they all sound muddy?

Is there even one 7-string guitar out there that is good for death metal?
I own an ESP LTD M 307, I had an EMG 707 put in it and it didn't do much for the
chunk factor that I'm looking for. I'm getting an Ibanez Universe(UV777BK)soon, but will it even be worth the money? Anyone here use 7's? What do you have, and what kind of rig are you running?

Seven strings are a waste... the tunning of your guitar and pickups and amp + settings is gonna make a better and bigger diffrence than one string...besides...just buy the Zakk Wylde string set... and your tone will sound much fatter... shit..worked for me

^oh what a good argumentated opinion.
NOT.

tune your zack wylde strings to B and see how fat your tone is, it'll probably have stricking resemblance to a elephant fart.

it's not about fat tone, it's about deep tone.

7 strings are not a waste, if you get a descent one, the Ibanez Uv's are excellent, the LTD 7 strings suck donkey dick (most floppiest 7 strings ever), the ESP's are good, but hey, those are overpriced.
Man, if an LTD sounds sucky with an EMG707 in it, they must be even worse then I thought at fist.
I've played a Ibanez universe 7 string and I loved it, but a pretty normal RG7 is allready better then an LTD 7 string..

Yeah when I had that pickup put in, I got that Zakk Wylde string set too. It
didn't really do jack shit for the sound I'm going for. The neck on my 307
doesn't let me do shit either, it's thick and wide like gripping a damn baseball
bat. I did like the Universe though, it sounded pretty good even with the stock blaze pickups. I might go with an Evolution cause I hear good things about that pickup. I'm trying to find a 7 that sounds as good or close to my USA Jackson Rhoads Pro, that guitar just crushes.

Actually 7 strings are a waste!
Because I had a Squier stagemaster 7 string and the strings would flop
around like Jerry's mom's pussy. Better get a Baritone guitar so you can tune
to more lower flat tuning with having flopping strings.

My favorite thing about 7 strings is the ability to play really low powerchords that you couldnt play in standard tuning, yet still be able to play the really high notes on the high e string in lead parts/solos ect. ect.

I like them for down tuning, but they just don't seem to chunk like a 6.
I dunno I just wish every guitar sounded as brutal as a USA Rhoads.

the main plroblem you had was..... mmmm.... "squire".
baritones don't have the same range as 7 strings. although the six low strings might be there, you still miss out on the high e. which may not be important to some, but for alot of people it is.

i personally cant stand the feel of ltd 7 stringers, or at least the ones i've tried. i've played a real esp 7 string once though and i liked it alot better, but the price tag on it was in outer space.
most of the mid-higher end ibanez's are pretty good.
and i played a schecter 7 string once that wasnt to bad for the price.

so 7 strings arent exactly a waiste, it just depends on the specific one you're looking at.
also, i would suggest buying a quality eq pedal, it can change the muddy "blah"ness of the distorted low b string alot.

carvin makes a left-handed 7 string, you just have to click the option for it in "model upgrades"

i don't own an 7-string guitar, nor i have never played one...but i thought about it...
Most people tune the 7th string in A or B so they can play power or (drop-a ) chords.... so the notes would be AEA or BEA... but i guess you can use other tunings...Wouldn't it be possble to get less thicker strings and tune the 7th in E or D? So you could get EEA or DDC? Basicly, that would also be one finger chords...but wouldn't sound so low though

well, you could do that, but that ruins the whole idea of extra low bottom on 7 strings.
