Tool is an awesome band. Maynard defenatly has one of the most powerful voices and his lyrics are also complex and deep. Technicality wise they don't stand up in but are very far from the norm in modern music. If anything, I think that they are under-rated for thier great work. But I must agree that thier concert prices are way to price worthy.

And what the fuck is wrong with Lateralus? If some one could give me at least 3 good opinionated justifiable reasons, I would appreciated it. I think that album shows some of there best work; including Maynard's awesome voice rang and strength ("The Grudge" and "Tick and Leeches") and thier experimentation with off time signatures ("Lateralus" and "Disposition").

As for my favorite album, it is a everlasting tie between Undertow, Aenima, and Laturalus. I voted for Aenima because its the mood I've been in for awhile.

Underrated? Eww. The press live in their colon here, and they have a legion of teenage fans who need nothing more than a good stabbing followed by an acid bath. There was some naueseating ass-kissing around when they toured.

If the prices are bad elsewhere, they're worse in Australia. Which perpetually sucks, but that's life. I think they jack the prices to make coming here economical in the first place and there's very few places available to take big gigs properly.

I just thought you all might want to know that Tool is listened to by many many metal bands, like Opeth. Not that that means you have to like them because of that, but maybe to give them more of a chance. Maynard's voice is amazing, and really actually puts emotion into his singing rather than screaming thats just there as another instrument, plus their lyrics are extremely deep and make great statements about human nature. I havent ever heard anything about concert prices though, so I dont know about that. Many people stereotype Tool as being like all that nu metal shit, when they are no where close.

I went back and listened to Lateralus, and Darko is right. It's definitley got some of the finer tool moments, but I'm still gonna go with Aenima for my favorite. I think the reason I was so anti- Lateralus was because Schism got so much airplay.....it's actually a damn fine album.

Indeed it is, and I encourage everyone out there that has a aberrant disliking for Tool to give them a try again. I too, get annoyed when a band is massivley over publicized and loathed by idiots, but its a price to pay when a recherché band like Tool gets recognized.

For people that are willing to be more open minded about it and want to give them a second chance, I suggest these songs for a good introduction to Tool - Lateralus, Reflection, Third Eye, Aenima, Pushit, Undertow, Prison Sex, Parabola, The Grudge, Ticks and Leeches, Hooker with a Penis, Forty-Six and 2, Intolerance, Bottom, Hush, Opiate....

One of the things I dislike about them... the names of their songs. Lateralus and Parabola sound sooo much like "Meteora" (Linkin Park). And Undertow just makes me think of HL. Tool's music defenatly isn't technical, but its defenatly not simple. Anyone that has heard a good amount of Tool and knows something about music should come to the same conclusion. I like Tool a lot...Maynard has a realy neat voice, and he's very creative with his lyrics.
They may or may not be the kind of music what you like, but the point is, tool is far from a simple band, they do a lot of stuff far beyond the standard verse chorus verse shit. You have to at leat give them credit for that, being able to break through without being another preppy sugercoated boyband or one of those numetal bands that all sound the same.
Btw, aenima is the best album, it has the heavyness of undertow while already having some of the progresiveness of lateralus

Ok i've read every single one of the posts in this forum, and alot of them are just bullshit comments like "tool are gay" and "i fucking hate tool" with no follow through or explination to WHY you hate tool. Also there are alot of things i wanna clear up.

Tool is progressive rock/metal so you cannot put it into the same category as cannibal corpse, embodiment 12:14, etc if u don't like that type of music then you obviously not gonna like tool.

Tool are fucking gods at progressive and technical music, ok so the guitar and bass is something someone with 2 months of guitar playing can do but maynard has the best male voice i've ever heard and danny carey (drummer) has been herald as one of the most creative drummers in the world and is also one of the top 5 drum tech's in America.

And as far as how technical they are goes, they are technical in the way they sound and the way they compose their songs, as some dude said b4 they don't do the typical verse, chorus, verse shit.

If you are a musician, and i mean a REAL musician who understands music then you'd have alot more respect for them.

Personally i'd say that unless a band is obviously incredibly technical (symphony x) and appreciated really only by musicians, then it should be judged on the way it sounds over anything else.

But people still buy tickets to see our concerts. For example, just last week, our concert program consisted of a tribute to Hector Berlioz's 200th anniversery, one of his symphonys that only a few bands play. We had the honor of having the conductor of the Ft. Worth Symphony come and listen. We record every spring for cds to sell commercially. Speaking of that, I have band practice in a few hours .
