Opeth and Classical music
Hey guys. Ive played the cello in an orchestra for about 9 years now, and I was wondering if anyone else noticed similarities between Opeth's music, not to mention many other metal bands, and classical music.

A lot of metal bands have classical influences... try Dimmu Borgir for instance...

Metal bands predominantly from Europte have a classical influence because a huge amount of these guys come from Europe, where kids are religiously tought and brought up on classical music. Hell, its where it was born.

Classical music....like mozart and bach and beethoven. That kind of music, classical meaning all the other kinds from back then, like boroque, romantic, etc. Of course, classical style in there too. I love romantic orchestrated

Children of Bodom, even though they have no orchestrated parts, I read somewhere that a majority of their stuff comes from listening to classical music.

You just now noticed the classical influence on Black Metal? To name some of the many that are classical inspired... Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth , Emperor has some classical influenced stuff (ex. The beginning of An Elegy of Icaros), so does Satyricon, Mortis definitely does, Venom, ummm, I'll stop now... I can name alot. This is no groundbreaking discovery. The link between Black Metal and classical is no mystery.
