proper way to pick
ive been playin guitar for about a year and a half now and i can tremolo pick like a bitch. the other night i was playin in front of the mirror to see what i looked like and i noticed something. When i pick i do it by monving my elbow. considering ive never seen anyone else do that before id guess its not the right way to do it. When i see people in videos they just move their wrist or only their thumb and index finger (michael angelo). Which is the best way to do this? i find that when i move my wrist i end up goin so fast my elbow gets goin again and it isnt much different. When i move my fingers i am a whole lot more accurate but im slow as hell. I would guess it would be possible to only use your fingers and be fast like michael angelo so how exactly should i pick.

i think wrist is the best way to go. if you start using your elbow in betwen, try using your fingers, 'cause that'll maybe move you wrist, hehe.
be patient though, i use to use my elbow too, but after a while, i never use it now, just my wrist
i heard that if you use your elbow, it can cuase tendonitis or something.

The correct way is whatever is comfortable. Don't worry about what other people are doing.

Don't even use your wrist unless you are strumming chords or moving from string to string. Use your fingers. Hold your pick at a 45 degree angle (maybe less) and try using the edge of the pick more. Pick the strings by wiggling your fingers around. So your index finger would upstroke the string and your thumb would downstroke. Using that technique will enable you to pick extremly fast. Micheal Romeo, Steve Vai, Satch, Malmsteen, Gilbert, and almost anyone you can think of that can tremolo pick do that.

Yeah, look at Marty Friedman.. lol
I was tought it was more efficent to pick with your wrist. Also, i hear its pretty bad in the long run to pick with your arm, apprently you cant get good speed doing that. If your tremolo picking you have to use some of your arm because your wrist cant go that fast. While im at it, never rest your fingers on your guitar (and use them as support for your picking hand) when playing. It may seem alot easier, but it will severely decrease your speed in the long run.
But as dead said, you can do anything you want, anyway you want. What i just said was tips from professionals, to help make it easier for people like us.
