Whatcha wanna do is something called "bouncing". Say you have 4 tracks, numbered 1-4. First, record drums on track 1, or tracks 1 and 2, depending if you want to record them in stereo or not. Then record bass on track 2 or 3. then, record what you have on these tracks onto track 4, this will free up tracks 1-3 so you can record vocals and your guitars. This is what the bands of the 60's had to do in order to record more instruments than what was possible with the number of musicians/tracks they had available. Hope that helps.

beeing a jobless musician is nearly impossible. haha.

I'm happy I got a descent job, anyways, a digital 8 track is ideal, you can get a fostex or tascam used for about 200 dollar these days.

I agree Def, a digital 8 track is the better choice. Now days they have lots of cool features, such as guitar effects, automatic bouncing, non destructive editing, and other things that just were not possible with an analog 4 track cassette unit, and they are so much simpler to use. One thing I will say in those old analog machines defense though, is that they record the sound of a distorted guitar better than any digital recorder I have heard.
