Official Iced Earth "The Glorious Burden" Thread
Well guys, they moved the release date back again for the new iced earth. But the good news is they're releasing somewhat of a teaser to satisfy us until the record comes out....Check this out:
ICED EARTH: 'The Glorious Burden' Pushed Back To January 2004 - Sep. 11, 2003
The release date of ICED EARTH's new album, "The Glorious Burden", has been officially pushed back to January 13, 2004 (a day earlier internationally), according to SPV Records. A single (view cover here) containing the tracks "The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me)", "When The Eagle Cries" (Unplugged), "Valley Forge" and "Hollow Man" will be released on October 27.
"The Glorious Burden" (view cover here) is the group's first CD to feature new vocalist Tim Owens (ex-JUDAS PRIEST), who replaced Matt Barlow earlier in the summer. The follow-up to 2001's "Horror Show" features Owens alongside ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer (guitar), Richard Christy (drums, ex-DEATH, CONTROL DENIED), James MacDonough (bass) and Ralph Santolla (guitar, EYEWITNESS, MILLENIUM, ex-DEATH).

That cover kicks ass.
I've never heard any of the Judas Priest albums with Owens, but he totally sucks compared to Barlow. The Reckoning was cool though.

I am listening to Hollow Man at the moment.... but I don´t like it... The new singer sings like ozzy osbourne  ... when the distorted guitars fall in, it becomes a bit better, but it´s still no where near Barlow....

This cover is like a copy from the trooper by Iron Maiden!!!
Iced Earth were good but their last album(Horror Show) sucked.
Besides that Schaffer seems to play the same riffs in all the songs
with different rhythm!
And what gets on my nerves mostly is that here in Greece
people think he's such a great guitar player!

If you think about it...Demons&Wizards has the slightest similarity to the album, "The Dark Saga." (Comparing Question of heaven and Fiddler on the Green.)
It's good anyways. 'cause of Hansi of course .
....not to get off subject, but I will not be interested greatly in the new album...just curious.

Yeah, I've said it before, Shaffer is pretty stagnant. If only he would let the rest of the band participate in the songwriting.......
Tarnowski wrote the solos for the "Something Wicked" album and they ruled. When Jon writes solos they have no "feeling" to them. If you play a solo off of Something Wicked, I could tell you what song it was, but Jon's solos are not that identifiable.

His riffs tend to blend together as well. But I'm not that big of an Iced Earth fan to begin with, so it might be that that's the problem. If somone taught him to write a song without triplets, though....
I've only heard The Reckoning, off of this album, and Ripper sounded more like Halford there than he did with Priest. It was pretty cool, but somewhat generic, probably more so because of the vocals than with Barlow, which is a shame, since I like Ripper. Like much of Iced Earth does to me, the song sounded incomplete. But there's no reason why my opinion should count in this matter.

Schaffer is quite the rhythm player, and can handle some leads. He doesn't go around claiming to be a lead guitarist though, listen to the interview on horror show (if you got the limited edition cd, it came with a bonus interview) to hear his philosophy on guitar playing.
