worthless brand peice

i have a rediculous question to ask.
eveyrone know that little peice of plastic plate on your guitar neck right between the brigde and the keys the little plate with the brand name on it

what is it there for i made a shocking discovery after years of playing guitar that picks fit very niceley in there. is that what its for?
