tremlo palm mute
I have two problems concerning the tremlo plam mute technique:
1. I find it hard to play tremlo palm muted riffs as fast as simple tremlo picked riffs.
2. I listen to a lot of riffs from deathmetal bands that seem to alternate between tremlo palm muted riffs and tremlo riffs or between tremlo plam muted and single notes. I find the last one more difficult because when you want to tremlo pick all the way you just have to palm mute the string whenever you feel like. When it alternates between "tremplo pm" and single notes i never feel like i'm playing at desire speed and that i take to much time between the two.
I would apreciate some tips to play good and fast tremlo palm muted riffs. I would like to know how do you play, what picks do you use, what scales do you use and how do you use this technique.

i suggest you use heavy picks...i use dunlop stubbys 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm...both work fine for me...
you should have a good wrist movement to tremelo pick the riffs...
try alternate tremelo picked riffs for practice...for example the after-solo riff in lack of comprehension

I know this is the anwser you don't want to hear, but practice. Theres no magical way or pick to make you automatically do it. But there are exercises. Get powertab and at powertabs.net they have death metal songs tabbed out. With powertab you can slow the bpm of the song down do you can play along with it. As you get better you can speed it up.
Im sure there are alternative picking/tremelo palm muting threads out there am Im ot lazy to look them up. You might want to look at some Death tabs, as Chuck uses alot of tremelo and alternatie picking stuff.
Picks, I use thick 1.0mm dunlop. But there is a pick out there called the "Stylus Pick" which helps you with your alternative picking. It has a diamond rounded tip that teaches you to only play the tip of the strings (the key of alternative picking), and if you dig to deep then it will snag on the string and prevent you from hitting that note.

I agree with some Death stuff. Chuck can tremelo very fast. Lack of
Comprehension is part of my practice routine. That song has parts where
you tremelo p.m. and hit staccato's inbetween.

there is a riff on the song "Reduced to Ashes" from Deeds of Flesh on their new album that i think it goes like this:
2:56
-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
---- 333444-----333444------22233-----222333----
-------------------------------------------------------------
111----------111-----------111--------111-------------
_._._._______._._.__________._._.______._._.
I find it hard from going from the notes in tremlo palm muting on the 6th string to the notes tremlo picked in the 4th string. The transition should be fast and smoothly.

The only way to get the "inbetween" stuff is to practice.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have it yet but I'm going to keep
practicing until it comes with ease.
