Question Thicker strings - bridge coming up, fixable this way =>?

Hi

I restringed my guitar, from .42 - .09 to .46 - .09 ...

After I had done this, I noticed my brigde was gone way up, too high

Can I simply fix this by
1. Loosening the strings a bit
2. Turn the screws in the back more tight, thus lowering the bridge
3. Tune and tighten the strings again

??

Thanks alot, I've read this somewhere but I never did that before so I was wondering...

That same thing happened to my old Warlock. I went to a heavy gauge because I would snap a set of strings as soon as I put a fresh set on, and just like you said, the thicker gauge would pull up the bridge. Nothing I tried would fix the problem, even putting in higher tension strings, so I ended up blocking the bridge.

No no no no no n on o no no no no! When you put in a higher set of strings and you tune higher (making the strings get tighter) it will pull it up. Its very very bad for your gutiar and you need to make the tunning low enough so it goes back to normal (or take the strings out right away). What you need to do is go into a guitar shop and get your trus rod fixed up to be able to hold that thention with out fucking up your guitar. You need to tel the guy what you want to tune to and the gauge of your strings. Be careful, its bad for your guitar if you dont fix it!

Thx guys, especially Darko

So this means I cant tune to E anymore with this little thicker strings???????

Crap... lol...

Well the guy in the guitarshop said (and also the one from UGP) I could try the method I described in my first post here...

I'm gonna try that now... If it ain't working I'll have to tune to D or something?

I'm on 0.11-0.49 in Eb (or sometimes E) and I'm fine.

Just screw the screws in the back in a bit, retune the guitar, and repeat as neccessary until the bridge is flat.
However, if your neck starts to bow in a way it shouldn't, you'll have to fuck with the truss rod.

G_urr_A ,

what strings were originally on your guitar?

Well, I turned screws tighter in the back, now the brigde is (almost) flat, so it's ok I guess....

if you tighted the springs in the back of the guitar it should fix that, as whenever you change the string gauge / tuning of your guitar you need to ensure that the bridge is sitting flat
tighten it a bit, retune, repeat ... utill it is normal

this may not be much help now

Yeah well...

Mine bridge is a little up now, not much though... But it was pretty hard turning the screws any harder (guess I had to turn them deeper in the wood than they ever were).

Don't know... Does the bridge really need to be exactly flat??

that would put more pressure on the truss rod.

My guitar is about 10 yrs old, and I'm at least the third owner, so I have no idea what strings were on it *originally* but when I got it it had 0.11s.

It helps tuning stability (in some cases at least)

so? I mean, god damnit, that's what the truss rod is for. Taking the pressure that the neck won't be able to stand.

so, fucker, too much pressure would make it bend. Metal bends, you see, some of us that went to middle school learned that.
