EMG 81's
does anyone here use EMG 81 pickups, im thinking about putting one in the bridge position of my Gibson SG, the guitar sounds incredible as is, but I keep wondering if it could be better, also could someone explain to me how it is that active pickups run on battery power?
thx

active pickups are powered for a higher output, you can use a 18v system with your EMG's too.
some pickups come with an eq for more versitality, the battery runs that system too.

EmG's Rule all ass man. I had an 81 in my charvel/jackson back in the day, and it fucking sounded killer!!!
What does running an 18v system do to the sound, and what is the point?

it gives you more headroom/higher output. plus I noticed that the sound is a tiny bit more 'tight' however, it does take up space. 2x9v batteries, It barely fitted my guitar.

Yup, I know the drill, a friend of mine has 81's in his Vee...
18v does give you a higher output and more headroom though you won't notice too much of a difference.
