A very popular riff I wanna use
There is this cool guitar riff many bands from Iced Earth to The Offspring have used in songs. I hear it in many songs, and I wanna use it. It's just basic power chords. Would it be considered copying?
E|-----------------------|
B|-----------------------|
G|-----------------------|
D|-7----5----3-5-7----|
A|-7----5----3-5-7----|
E|-5----3----1-3-5----|
I know its lame to copy, but I liked this riff for awhile. I think I may have written it before hearing it too.

I'd say it's okay...
I had to try to play the riff , and I made a new version I will use in a song.
But not base the whole song on that riff though...

Just as long as Metallica hasn't used it you should be allright. Try to add some elements to it to change it (Ex. triplets, muting, sliding, pinch harmonics, ect...). It might be concidered copping if its an exact carbon copy of the original riffs so spice it up.

Sorry to be picky, but in what Iced Earth song have you heard that riff?
I know Maiden uses it for rhythm during solos quite a lot, and a variation of it is used in Hallowed be Thy Name and the Trooper, but I haven't heard it in any Iced Earth song.

Yes, BUT, when you can play like Dave Murray, who NEEDS a shit load of complicated riffs? His solos are the shit, you cant tell me they arent........
