Martyr
well, i have some good news for martyr fans
they've got 5 new songs ready(i heard 2 of those at the show yesterday: Wreck, Perpetual healing of infinite pain)
it's MUCH more brutal and technical than the stuff off warp zone (weird stuff, the 2 guits aren't tuned the same etc, lots of dissonnance...)
there's no release date set yet, but by the looks of things iw guessing around 4 months or so...cant wait
oh and theyre still fucking great live(hehehe yesterday they played at a festival outdoors...imagine a moshpit in a slope hihi)
i'll repost in here if i get more news about the album

Awesome! I cant imagine it bieng anymore technical. You lucky bastard got to see them live. Please post the songs when you can! Or contact me and send them to me.
The two guitars tuned diffrently isn't new. Suffocation where the very first to do it and alot of bands fallowed.

My friend went to the show yesterday and he told me it was really awesome. I wonder if they can put out something better than Warp Zone... it's a masterpiece in the field of technical death metal in my opinion.
Isn't the album supposed to come out in spring 2004? That's what I heard but I might be wrong.

spring 2004? well, i'll quote dan on this: it'll be released when it's ready
and yes darko, i get to see them at least once a year *smirk*
as for technicality, poeple said the same with hopeless hopes...and they've evolved a lot since then

"Canadian metallers MARTYR are currently working on their forthcoming untitled album, with 8 songs in the making and 3 completed so far."
Hmm.

From what i heard the bassist sings more than Daniel Mongrain this time... can someone confirm this (or is it just a stupid rumor) ? If it's true, I can understand why it's more brutal than before. Not to depreciate Dan's vocals or anything, but you know.

Yeah, true. Though I can't really understand what he's doing with his guitar.

Sounds like one guitar's distorted while the other isn't. The distorted one's doing the scratching sounds, while the other one's obviously doing the clean stuff. Genious stuff.

Yeah, those scratches remind me of this Gorguts instructional video in which Lemay was playing the main riff from Inverted (from Wisdom to Hate). This tune is also a killer one.
Honestly, I think the only bad element in Martyr is the voice - I can't stand it. I'm getting used to it, but I wonder why he sings like that. Well, it's only a matter of opinion, I guess there are people who like it.

It's his style. Tons of people hate Shuldiner's voice (something i've never understood why). Personally i think Mongrain's voice is perfect for the band, a low growling death metal vocal would be overkill.

Yeah, I agree, Schuldiner's voice was the best one that could fit with his music, as well as Obituary (Tardy)'s one. But Mongrain is way too much... I don't know. As I said before, it's a matter of taste.
I think he could just do SOME low death vocals and SOME of his usual stuff, and it would be better. Too much of one style is boring in the end.
Hehe I like to blaspheme like that.

The first time I read of Martyr they were described as technical DM so when I bought Warp Zone I was expecting a low gutteral growl. I was surprised by the vocals at first but now I can't imagine Martyr any other way. However, maybe these new vocals will add something extra to an already formidable band.

There's a bit more low growl in the 2 songs i've heard off their upcoming album. It fits in nicely.......but any more and it would stink. They always play in E or Drop-D, and death metal growls don't fit over such high-tunings.
