Line 6 versus Marshall
Hi
I went to a musicshop to ask for prices about some amps to rehearse and do small gigs with.
I was interested in Marshall DSL/TSL 100, and alltogether with cab it comes to a 2000 euros!?
Then this guy said; soon we'll have the new Line 6, digital, model HD 147 or something. He told me I'd only pay 1700 or 1800 euros for that.
I'm still saving some money, but what's your idea on this? Which one should I pick?
Thanks!

Marshall all the way. Line 6 only sounds decent if you buy the top of the top of the range. Marshall is just raw power whereas Line 6 is all ones and zeros

line 6 is something korn would use.
do you want to be as gay as them?!?!?!
then get the marshall.
yeah, i met a dick guitar player once who had a line 6, he wasn't bad,
but not good either...and that sound that came from his line 6 amp, was
the most annoying low high combo with no mid. god it just hurt my ears.

I like the sound of Line 6 but it is very digital sounding and such.. I prefer the more "real" sound of marshalls.

line 6, line 6 amps are only ok, they are like crate amps with digitech processors built in, the marshall would be much better, if you don't want to break the bank then i would suggest going used, a used dsl 100 would go for about $600-700 american, and the 1960 cab would only be about $300-400 american.
another amp i would suggest is the peavey 5150 II, its only about $1000 new

obivously you've never played a 5150,5150 II, or XXX. these amps definitly do more than compete with marshall. the XXX is like a peavey ripoff of the mesa boogie dual rec. but it is an awsome head. the 5150 II is my favorite, its sooooo metal. the 5150 is alot like the 5150 II but theres a defenite tone difference and the 5150 II is about $50-100 more and has a couple more knobs.
crate on the other hand...... they make one good amp, the mx120r combo, its got good distortion, good clean, 120 watts with 2x12's, all for $350. so for the price it is a great amp but other than that crate isnt really any good. the only reason that amp is any good is because of how low the price is.
i would also suggest the mesa boogie f-100 head, its a very versitile head. or the world famouse dual rec.

I have played the xxl, xxx, 5150II and their combo's.
peavey just doesn't do shit for me, I just don't like their tone, I'de pick a marshall JCM900/800 over any peavey, any day.
as for crate, the stacks I played where loud but had no tone, never played any of their combo's though.
mesa boogie is an acquired taste, the triple rects have their own tone, but I'de rather have an Engl or Rivera stack for that kinda money....

the rivera knuckle head is pretty nice, especially with that lobottom sub cab they have. i havent really spent much time with the engl so i don't have the best knowledge of it, but from what i do know, its a pretty sweet head.
the heaviest head in the world is the bogner uberschall though, that thing can wipe its ass with any rivera, engl, peavey, marshall or mesa, as far as heavyness goes anyways. but its like $2,500 just for the head.

it is german, i think it means something like "sonic wave" or "sonic boom" or some weird shit like that. its so bad though, i used to think the dual rec. was the heaviest amp, then i played one up next to a bogner, it made me cry.j/k
