Ambient
I know this is an odd request on a metal forums site, but does anyone know of any good ambient artists?

I don't think that's the ambient he's talking about, twits. You mean Jose Padilla/Underworld/Cafe Del Mar stuff, right?

I love Ambience. Relapse records ( Ambience list ) has a huge ambience section you should scroll through with discriptions of each ambience artist and what they sound like. Your gunna need SoulSeek (slsk.org) to find most of these artists though.

I just got some of that music, and it's fucking STRANGE. What are these ambient artists thinking? It's pointless meandering zombie noise.

No it's not. It's to enlighten yourself and let your mind and soul run free. To be one with yourself and let all your problem float away. Or something like that.
Ambient sounds cool to me. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Simple.

If you like ambient I know alot about it. Im not aquainted with ambient metal of any kind, although I would like to be. If you want to know of some good bands, check out:
Mogwai
Tortoise
Slint
Sonic Youth
June of 44
Blonde Redhead
They are mostly post rock or experimental in some way.
Some good Canadian bands that are becoming to be local pioneers of this sub genre are:
The Absent Sound
Mohogony Frog (From my city)
and anything from www.teargasrecordingtree.com
Check it out if you like indie music.

Sonic Youth? Blonde Redhead? Are you fucking retarded?
To be quite honest...the closest thing to "ambient metal" is drone-doom i.e. Sunn 0)))

Burzum, post-1996 and one track on each of "Aske", "Filosofem" and "Hvit Lyset..." but, your best bet is to go for his last album, "Hliðskjálf." Beautiful, relaxing ambient with a pagan/medieval atmosphere.
Also check out Shinjuku Thief. I don't know whether you're looking for certain types of atmospheres, but ST ranges from pure ambience to martial arts effects/music.

Merzbow has created some dark ambient-esque stuff. He's done so much (he's on over 300 recordings).
