Looking for good songs to start from.
After reading a few posts by other beginners, I'd like to Ask for a few recomendations for good songs that are generally considered easy to play to start off. (Hey, we all started somewhere). Since I'd like to keep it along the music I would like to do, if you could recomend a few of the easier tracks to work with from the bandlist, I would be most appreciative.
PanterA
Children Of Bodom
Cradle Of Filth
Iron Maiden
Slayer
Any other suggestions for developing skill on the guitar would be most appreciated. Thanks.

for cob you might as well jump head first and start with towards dead end, it'll make you practice sweeps a bit...
as for pantera uhm try cemetary gates itll practice artificial harmonics
and well, its not in the list but here's other nice starters with explanations on what they help on usually:
dimmu borgir - metal heart (general rhythm, and a bit of soloing including sweeps, just take it slowly first youll see its quite easy after a bit of practice)
martyr - inner peace (gets you used to fucked up rhythms)
iced earth - first song off horror show, cant remember which heh, its nice for rhythm practice especially the ending riff, which i quite like
death - spirit crusher (again, rhythm)
michael angelo - speed kills (heh no just joking forget it for more than a year
now i know those songs might seem tough at first(well, the martyr and cob ones' solos are tough, but the non-solo parts help a lot)
should be plenty to keep you occupied for a while *wink*
for the tabs, theyre all at mysongbook.com except martyr([cheapplug] order the tabbook![/cheapplug])...last time i checked they were pretty decent too
good luck

That first song on Horror Show is Wolf...
I wouldn't jump to anything with sweeps yet, gor for some metallica shit. And then work your way up to Maiden, and then harder shit with tricky techniques.

Slayer - Black Magic (one of Slayer's easiest songs, but still fun to play)
Slayer - Stain of Mind (again, very easy but very fun)

Well, I am gonna try starting with 5 songs right now. I am wondering if you guys think they are good choices.
Slayer - Black Magic
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
Metallica - Fade To Black
Iron Maiden - Mother Russia
Iced Earth - 1776
I would like the songs to keep on coming, I like the ideas and feedback from as many as I can. Will be giving updates soon on the progress and questions I have.

Good beginner song. The Trooper is another good Maiden one. Flight of Icarus too if you want to work on chords.

You picked good songs.
Just learned Fade to Black. That song is great.
But Metallica's One? Learn it too because it's 2 easy calm solos and one heavy. The first 2 (the easy) have some nice things in it. Sliding over the fretboard, moving from the first frets up to high and some tapping.
Also check out some books or websites for licks and riffs from famous guitarist and learn them.
edit: Start practicing some easy scales too. The pentatonics are really easy. Use them too warmup your hand when you pick up the guitar for the day, and then practice them some time per day.

My best advice would be, make sure you learn how to use your left hand pinky pretty well. Ive seen too many people avoiding using it because its kind of awkward at first. But, once you get it down, it makes playing almost any solos/riffs much easier. This also goes with any finger you might be having trouble with...

ARRGGHHH DAMN IT THIS IS THE 20TH TIME WE'VE HAD THIS THREAD!!!!!!!
Judas Priest is ALWAYS easy, these are the 3 easiest non-Priest songs I know:
Overkill - Sonic Reducer
Motorhead - Don't Need Religion
Nuclear Assault - Torture Tactics
Those are some good songs to get you started, there are thousands more but I'm too lazy and there are a million threads like this already go look through those.

Death-Pull the Plug
that was one of the first songs I ever learned wasn't really that hard.

more than easy stuff i'd say go for challenging songs...theres no use playing for whom the bell tolls, paranoid & stuff...i learnt for whom the bell tolls within 15 minutes of picking up the guitar
go in for songs that would seem a bit difficult in the beginning but during the course of perfecting the song you'll learn a LOT !

Alright, I went for something I thought was a little more difficult, and learned the full song to Writhe In Pain on the Guilty Gear 2X soundtrack (For you with file share programs look up guilty Gear 2X for some decent guitar work tracks).
Nothing overly complicated, but I like the solo that the play. I wonder if anyone can tell me what scale and key that is under. Currently also trying to ply Holy Orders ((I am starting to think it is too fast for me, if anyone cares to make that call, I wont hold it against them, though I'll keep hacking away at it)).
Also figured out most of Aces High, though the timing for the intro doesnt sound right, any suggestions?

Pantera's "Medicine Man" and the part in "Suicide Note part II" and Slayer's "Post Mortem" are good beggining songs. It'll help you with "chugging"
"Territory" by Sepultura is a good begginer song.
I'm not a big CoF fan but I saw that you were interested in one of their songs and I recommend "From the Cradle to Enslave". That's about the only Cof I can stomach.
Good Luck
Hail

darkthrone-cromlech (it teachs u how to shred accurately and fast)
cradle of filth-saffrons curse
-the forest whispers my name (two song which improve speed)
slayer-seasons in the abyss (just kicks ass and is quite impresive to play)
pantera-the art of shredding (cos it helps u shred)
black sabbath- Iron man, War Pigs etc (most of them are fairly easy and kick ass)
I learnt all these songs off by heart in about 2 months. I've now been playin 6 months and can play most shit and have just learnt the seasons in the abyss solo!!
