scallopped guitar fretboard
has anyone tried a guitar with a scallopped(sp?) fretboard? i'm wondering how it feels, the sound it gives (the usual wondery stuff hehe)
i checked at the guitar shop to see if they had any that i could try, but they only do it on demand so they wont have any...

I just scalloped frets 19-22 on my guitar today and i love it. Im even thinking bout scalloping the whole fretboard. Scalloping makes you play so much faster, i cna now perform bends with such ease. But dont get a factory scalloped neck they suck ass. Get a neck scalloped by a luthier or do it yourself, its real easy here sum helpful sites: http://guitarproject.com/tut/scalloped.htm and http://guitarproject.com/tut/scal1.htm

www.warmoth.com is good too. I really don't liked scalloped fret boards. I've played an Yngwie Malmsteen strat...it feels like theres no fret board under your fingers. And if you press too hard you get a different note. I really don't play faster on them and arpeggios are just as difficult.

While I haven't played any, I can say that I don't see the point, as I do not touch the fingerboard when playing anyways. That's using jumbo frets and 11-49 strings, though.

Why not just make extra jumbo frets? Wouldn't that serve the same purpose as a scalloped fretboard?

i know this is an old thread, but i'm really wanting to try this just to see how it feels, would it be possible to do it on a 7 string? (the 7 string is the only guitar i have that i'd be willing to fuck up with 24 frets)

I would imagine you could scallop any neck. And I would think that using the extra jumbo frets would accomplish the same task.

Yeh you can scallop a 7 string. Its not that hard, and u dont even have to remvoe the neck if your careful. Pretty easy task, u just need patience.

yeah but scalloping your own fretboard is easier than refretting your entire neck.

i'm not quite sure about that myself. but i know that bends are way easier because there's no fretboard for your finger to get caught on, so there's no resistance. frictionless bending.

wouldn't it cause buzzing when playing the frets? considering the string is hitting the actual fret when played?

thats probably just your opinion
when it comes to playing fast its actually harder to play faster
all scalloped frets were made for when you bend the strings you get a better grip on the strings and thats it and dont take my word for it this was said by yngwie malmsteen.

Be quiet foo', he be under the protection of TMM!
Haha, I don't like scalloped necks at all, they don't particularly feel nice, don't improve my spee, bending's much smoother and easier, but bending's never been a problem with me.

sorry man
i was just stating the obvious about the scalloped frets nothing else
its nothing to do with speed. now if you can play scalloped frets and play fast
then im sorry and i take it back.
