Only one amp, guitar and pedal...
If you had to choose only one of each to play, what would you use?
I'd use Warrior XT, Digitech Metal Master and B-52 stack
Others?

fuck, tough question man. let me think a while.
Marshall JCM 800 Head with MESA cabs.
well, if multi-pedals are not allowed then i'd go with a metalzone.
and for a guitar, i'd go with Jeff Hanneman's costom ESP just off the top of my head

if i had my choice? run my fender telecaster(very unlikely for metal, i know. but it kix ass!)to my digitech RP200and run that straight to the PA. i like it simplified to the extreme. so if i can go with no amp--i will. even though i have a deluxe 90 DSP of fender for small jams. but if u talkin dreamin(shit i dont have), then...wow...hell if i know. prolly an explorer(hetfeild sytle) . and the amp be a peavey XXL. and a POD pro. but come on, whos got the money for that shit?

Because good tube heads have amazing distortion. Why do you think there is a whole industry devoted to emulation of tube amps? I can see using say a tubescreamer as a volume boost type thing. For example, if you have a JCM 800 which only has 1 channle, you get 2 tube screamers. Have them both off and the 800 set up for a great clean sound for your clean sound. Stomp on one for your distortion, and hit the second one for an even larger boost for solos. I just can't understand spending a grand on a tube head and not even using it's distortion.

Won't you get a shit load of feedback?
I tried that and my amp would go crazy unless I rest my palm
over the Pickup/humbucker area of the guitar.

If you want sounds than buy a multi-effects pedal not a DISTORTION pedal. My point is that buying a distortion pedal counters the idea of getting a great amp which already has great distortion.
When you use the 2 tube screamers, you are only supposed to use the second one for solos. There are not many solos that require you to stop for very long peridos of time. It is used as a boost to cut through the mix.

it depends really, some tube heads might not have the type of distortion your looking for, i'm not sure why someone would spend money on a tube amp that they dont like the sound the dirty channel gives but anyways. i do use my mesa vtwin preamp for dist though, but i before i had a tube preamp, i had a s.s. head, and i just used a metalzone with it, istill have the mt but i dont use it, i've messed with it with my tube preamp and it sounds alot better than it ever did with my old s.s. head.
but not nearly as good as my mesa. so in some instances it may seem pretty dumb but in some cases like when i was trying to play metal on a freinds jcm 900 loaded with tubes out of an old fender, i went for the dist pedal because the amp had pussy sounding crunch for dist and almost no low end.

You can still get great distortion. Turn it up till it distortions. What the hell do you think you have to do to a JCM 800?

theres only so many different sounds you can get out of any particular amp, some give more than others. someone might not like the way a cranked jcm 800 sounds, i dunno. its just not completely "stupid" all the time.

Alot of the thickness of guitar actually comes from a bass, you moron. As atif pointed out to me before, the more distorted it is, the more muddled its going to sound. And plus, Fender's aren't made for overly high distortion. I've proven it.
And as DEAD pointed out, its a fucking Marshall JCM. Thats all the distortion you need.

not only did i never say otherwise. but you're wrong.
thickness "from a guitar" comes "from a guitar" alot of the thickness from a band might be a bass. basses can make the guitars seem beefier...

not always.... ever played a bogner uberschall? hughe & kettner triamp? or a framus cobra? tons of gain, but it's more usable. and sounds clearer... maybe on a cheap 5150 the gain past 7 will start to sound muddy, but alot of more top notch amps have loads of gain that still doesnt muck up...

everybody knows that.... i never said they were ment for high gain.... except the rocpro, it does high gain fairly well..

jcm what???? they're all different amps... a jcm 800 is nothing like a jcm 2000 or a jcm 900....
jcm 800's do not "have all the distortion you need".... they're medium gain amps... they might be plenty for some, but most bands use boost pedals for extra gain with them... they still have a really sweet tone which is why alot of shredders love em.
jcm 900's arent exactly high gain either... i find i like the tone of them... but for alot of people a boost pedal is still required for the extra umff.
while jcm 2000's are geared more for high gain... because that's what people these days want. more gain. but then everybody complains that they don't sound like the 800's.... which totally confuses me because that's the point in a new amp. not to sound like an old amp.

I love Parkers. I think theyre very good for black metal(though I dont play it) because you can make them sound thin or thick. They have alot of variety.

great, its an old one, from the '80's... they have a RAT II and a Turbo RAT out too, I like this version the best, great for supercharging something like a JCM 800.
I just use it for diversity, I prefer the Engl's distortion, but its nice to get those ac/dc sounds from the clean channel without having to switch settings. my engl has footswitchable boosts on both channels, which basically makes it 4 channels (clean/gritty cleans, od1/od2 high gain) and the proco just kinda adds one more. and that all from one head!

just a question about the engl savage... is it midi? the price tag would lead me to believe so, since it costs about as much as knuckle head reverb.

i often find that 20% of my tone is in my fingers... 30% is in the amp.... 20% is in the guitar.... and the other 30% is all in my head.
aside from that... i really dislike bc's... avt's are exactly my thang... nothing worth dreaming of imo.

Crate Blue Voodoo (already have it)
Crate svb412 cab
Probably the holy grail reverb pedal, or maybe the boss delay pedal.

Moser Custom Shop Axe
Randall RM4 pre amp/ Randall RT2/50 power amp
I dont really use pedals too much, but probably a Boss NS2 if I dont end up getting a rack noise gate or an acoustic simulator pedal. I know its not a pedal but I want the Eventide Eclipse 3.0 effects processor.

Yeah i'm pretty damn close to owning it all. I mean, its to the point now where "dream stuff" doesn't really exist. Its just eventual purchases.
Not to mention one guitar is pretty gay just because it depends on the kind of music. I mean when i record all of my music i use two drastically different guitars. My gibson les paul standard, and my charvel.
I already have one of the most expensive gibsons made, all i need is another high level quality lead guitar to match it. Like i said the jackson soloist, or even maybe one of those caparison guitars. More specifically the HGS horus.

I want a really, really awesome 2x12 combo that will connect ( I'm pretty sure that any combo made after 1980 will do that ) to my Genz Benz 2x12. That along with my Ibanez will be close enough to perfect until I can one of these days just get an Uberschall or something.

amp: the powerball i've got is fine, i just want 2 of them, both full stacks, so i can have sterio guitar.
guitar: i dont know. i change my mind every day about which ones i like
pedal:
well, if you include a noise gate, then thats it.
but really i want a nice reverb, a nice chorus, and a nice delay. probably some large band eq thing,
probably all as analog as possible. tape delay etc.
but most of all i want a guitar tech who knows stuff

I already have several guitars that keep me real happy, I'm close to my dream rig amp-wise too.
Axe: Ran Invader V, wine red QM top, 24 fret, Floyd Rose, red dot inlays, ebony fingerboard, mahogany body neckthru(5P maple), cant decide on pickup config, will be some medium output pup with a booster switch.
Amp: Engl Savage/other highend Engl(I have a Fireball however and love it, I just want more channels/seperate EQ's) into 2 Engl V30 4x12 cabs.
Pedal: My trusty Boss NS2 or a rack Decimator, but if I had to pick one actual effect: Boss DD-3 Delay or some really pro rack delay/reverb. And I gotta throw in a MXR EVH Phase 90
Maybe someday I'll sell all my 6 strings(4 o them, selling 1 already) and get my long desired Ran custom.

If I had to choose one of each it would be:
Guitar: Jackson SL-2H with either EMG 81/60 or EVO/PAF Pro.
Amp: Rack setup of Engl E570 and VHT 2/90/2 with a Vader 4x12 and Gflex 2x12 for monitoring.
Pedal/Effects:ISP Decimator Pro Rack G and TC G-Force.

Theres lots of better pedals to choose than a metal zone, I'd pick a noise gate or chorus pedal for cleans.

Seeing how that guy wants Pat O' Briens BC Rich, he would get Pats amp setup too. I think he (Pat) uses the Metal Zone strictly as a boost pedal for his recto, I'm not sure though...

Damn seems like overkill using a metal dist. pedal as a boost in a high gain amp. You generally get better sounds using a DS-1 or 2 in front of a medium-high gain amp, or another similar "non-brutal-metal" pedals like the ProCo Rat, Big Muff Pi, etc. Schuldiner used a DS-1 as a boost in front of his Marshalls, Satriani did the same til he started using his custom JSX. And well the fellows in Morbid Angel(and Obituary, as tons of oldschool bands) used to use/still use ProCo Rats as a boost in front of JCM900's.

Until Chuck got the 8100. That is the way to go for oldschool tone, but I still prefer having an amp that can do it without pedals.
