Compressor or Noise Gate?

Which one would be the better deal? I have a Rocktron NG right now but I can't find the ideal setting for sustain+no feedback...Would a compressor do me better?

the compressor will give you sustain but will end up making it noisier. get a noise gate, and put it towards the end of your major noise making fx pedals.

example:
Your axe > compressor > distortion > equilizer > NOISE GATE > Chorus > reverb > amp
