Cool topic. I can think of a couple off hand, one is Light My Fire by the doors, I used to play the opening keyboard part on guitar and there is no room for error because it makes some long jumps so if I hosed it anywhere I couldn't really recover and would have to go to chords for the remainder of it. The other is Beautiful Girls by VH, although I pride my self on playing VH I just can't grasp the feel and technique of that song It's an excellent example of Ed's natural ability.

Dream Theater:
Solos in "Beyond This Life", sheer speed combined with awkward picking
"Home", "Erotomania" - string skipping
"Fatal Tragedy" Solo, Petrucci doesn't even include the big sweep in there when he plays it live.
Steve Vai:
"Juice" - tapping, and legato.
"Oooo", Speed, plus he doubles it with a clean guitar.
Joe satriani:
"Mystical Potatohead Groove Thing" and "Power Cosmic Pt.2":
it's hard to do that technique, where he taps an arpeggio only with his left hand.

well, if I leave out all the Vai, SRV, Satriani and Hendrix stuff, and keep it to metal.
Some CoB is difficult (speed...) and I can't get the Floods solo (Pantera) down, either he uses a harmoniser of he has like 5 guitar parts mixed in

Martyr - Warp Zone
Cannibal Corpse - Dead Human Collection

problems with warp zone? hmm...dunno, the only place in it thats hard is the solo imho(but then again, its not simple either
WARP ZONEEEEEEEEEEEE \M/ *moshes violently towards memnoch*
you should try inner peace by them its fun btw
oh and here's another tough-to-play song for you guys... 17th century chicken picking by uhm *checks name* Chris Impetiteelrewrjeltijerlieiri (impetisomethingi...bleh, the tabs are up on mysongbook.com but the guy mispelled picking with "pinkin" btw hehe, the notes are ok but the way he tabbed it is weird, just change it around)..anyways, its not *that* hard but keeping up at that speed without fucking up during 4 mins is quite hard

I think Warp Zone's tough, but i just started learning it recently. Ordered their cd and tab book in the mail.
Anyways, i haven't looked at Deserted Waters too much, but the starting is really fucked. I have no clue where they get their ideas!

mm....well:
Michael Angelo things are damn fuckin hard to play....For example alll the "planet gemini" album, its terrificly hard
Cacophony stuf is hard too, the instrumental things like Go Off!, Concerto or Speed metal symphony.
Cephalic Canage has some pretty technical things on his songs too, pretty good musicians.
Racer X things are also haaaaaaaard, some like technical difficulties or YRO or BRO or Frenzy....

Yeah, come Cacophony is fuckin tuff! My guitar teacher toured with Racer-X when he was a kid because the manager was trying to make a "amature hairband". One thing that they do that is killer is they attach a pick onto a powerdrill and shred/sweep with it. Thier music sucks balls though. I just learned Concerto Cephalic, Decapitated, Malmsteen. Mostly its just the solo artists that have the tuff stuff.

hehe... the Drill Song (Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy)... it's actually a cover of the Mr. Big song from when Paul was with them.
Scarified by Racer X is pretty difficult as well.

singing and playing come as you are at the same time is pretty difficult i find too. thats because the rithm of the singing is against the one of the guitar.... but only playing gets boring after a while, and yes, it is pretty easy to play

A couple of other good examples of this are Sting doing Message in a Bottle, live on accoustic and Rusty Cage from Soundgarden.

Dream Theater- The Glass Prison
I.....can't.........do it........
The "hardest" solo(s) I can play is probably Children of Bodom's Kissing the Shadows or Yngwie's Far Beyond The Sun.
I can also play some Vai (tender surrender, for the love of god, and crossroads suite, if you can believe that ) but I dont think his stuff is as hard as Alexi's or Yngwie's.
OH well.

master of puppet's last solo section is pretty nuts. it'd take me a lot longer than a week. course, i'm not all that fast or good at shredding, yet. =\
i can do the other parts no prob, though. definitely not the hardest song ever :P

It's all tremolo picked, so it's tough as fuck to keep consistant with that speed...

hmmmmmm......I've been killing myself these past couple of days trying to learn the solos for Enemies of Reality-Nevermore and As I Am-Dream Theater.
For as long as I've been playing and all the hard technical shit I can play, I've never been able to play the beggining of the solo on Domination by Pantera
Pretty sad too, if it wasn't for Pantera I don't even think I'd ever pick up a guitar in the first place.
Other songs that I can play but took me a long time to learn:
Pissing in the Mainstream-Dying Fetus (Weird ass riff)
Eye of Horus-Decapitated (Tremolo hell)
Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead-Cannibal Corpse (Fast muted down picking hell)
My Home-Dream Theater (Wah pedal Hell...I hate wah but I love this song)
Perennial Quest-Death (Weird scales)

Any song by Spawn of Possession. I've never even seen a tab of theirs, but seeing them live is enough to convince me they are more technical than anything.......and fast, jesus christ they're fast.
But what i'm currently having difficutly with.....well, not really, but it's tricky enough...is:
Martyr - The Fortune Teller
Martyr - The chorus to "Warp Zone". After almost 6 months of...well, playing it once a month, it's still hard.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I saw them for the first time last year on Maryland Death Fest, hopefully they'll play this year too. I don't even bother playing their songs though, if you don't have the right gear low tuning and high speed sounds like shit.

Shadows Fall has a ton of impressive solos, Jonathan Donais reminds me of Zakk Wylde.(more Shadows Fall tabs). Opeth can be quite confusing but I almost got all of Forest of October down( somethimg like 13 minutes long) including the solo.

Double neck? Shit...he plays fuckin' quad necks. The guitar looks like an "X" shape and he uses every neck. And on top of that he plays them crosshanded so he uses his fretting hand as picking and his picking for fretting. Try to download the solo to Nitro by him, thats where he plays it.

One of the hardest things that i have found, not to sound stupid, but Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse. The riffs are incredibly complex. I know it isnt just me for that.
Also, anything and everything by Opeth. Enough said.

The studio version of the song on the video "speed kills" is called "no boundaries" by michael angelo. I dont really find many songs hard right now. I dont look at any songs and say "thats too hard for me." I can pretty much learn anything in time. I'm only 13 too .
That bathe in entrails by dying fetus has a pretty good starting but the rest in my opinion is shit. Im not a fan of death metal but i love shred. I laughed my ass off the first time i heard that dying fetus song.

Tuff song? Hmm... The things I have trouble playing are various Martyr riffs and Becker songs.

OK, some classical stuff is hard to play; e.g. Flight Of The Bumblebee, Classical Gas.
Death metal is too:
Cryptopsy (e.g. their album Whisper Supremacy) - they play 4 notes/beat at over 250bpm and they don't miss the last note! , Nile, and Gorguts I find to be difficult to learn (let alone get my head around) as the timings are weird. Cannibal Corpse also has some difficult songs. e.g. try to keep up with Hatchet To The Head. Sentenced To Burn - headbanging squealy riff rocks . I'll have to post my version of the tab...
-Emperor does some nice shit on Prometheus..., like riffs that go for 32 beats.
-Death - Scavenger Of Human Sorrow is quite technical, but easy once you know it.
-Carcass' album Heartwork aint too hard to play (maybe for me), but it is technical though.
-The Haunted are too f'ing fast and the timing and alternate picking with on/off palm mutes can get ugly.
-Even afew Slayer songs off Divine Intervention stuff my right arm trying to keep up.
-Some Rhapsody songs are insanely difficult; blazing sweeps all over the place. e.g. try Agony Is My Name, or even Luca Turilli - Prince Of Starlight (the riffs in the background are awesome!)
-Dimmu Borgir - Behind The Curtains Of Night.
-Some Sep is fast off Arise. I heard a Beneath The Remains cover by Defleshed (I think you can d/load the mp3 off rawandwild.com) and that's like 270bpm x 4 notes/beat.
What really gives me problems though are Yngwie Malmsteen and Dimebag solos. fwoarh!

I always find Dream Theater stuff difficult, don't know how Petrucci does that!!! Paul Gilbert's Solo from Bach Rip Off also makes me go crazy.
Even Trey Azagthoth's solos are outwordly....Tried Broken Hope stuff?????Mann this guy challenges Yngwie Malmsteen on technical ability, if u haven't heard of them go check them out( not the speed but the off-time wierd riffs, his mode of soloing ) it seems like each and every member of the band possesses the same fucking brain!!!
The stuff from Whisper Supremacy is mind bogglingly awesome! Even some new Cannibal Corpse songs are difficult , maybe due to the fact that they are getting more and more technical after Vile.
Bands like Dying Fetus and Cephalic Carnage(I heard that the memebers of Cephalic Carnage were into Jazz before they started off with death metal. Is is true???/) always make you go mad.......

Most anything by Malmsteen or Vai or Michael Angelo is rediculously difficult.

Any of Nile's fast songs are pretty challenging. Even trying to memorise the song structure of their songs is hard!

Newer Cannibal Corpse stuff is a bastard to play in my opinion, like "Hatchet To The Head" etc. Nile stuff also is rather hard.

New CC can lick my nads. I don't even bother with that. Nile is incredibly complicated.
Right now i am learning a few songs. Agalloch - She Painted Fire Across the Skyline Part I and Dissection - The Somberlain.
For cannibal corpse, i prefer Tomb of the Mutilated or The Bleeding. Newer stuff is easy, repetitive and sounds like ass.
