Morbid Angel "Heretic" Discussion Thread
Well, as some of you probably know one of the greatest death metal bands to ever walk the earth is back in the studio recording their new record, tentatively titled, "H2K3". Those familiar with MA will know this is the "H" record, and will understand the tentative title, heh.
There's a studio diary up at earache.com as well:
http://www.earacherecords.org/blogger/blogger.html
Anyways, I just figured we should have a place to discuss this album since I'm fairly sure there isn't a soul around here that doesn't like them. I know that personally, I'm extremely excited about this.

I'm semi-excited about this.....but not nearly as much as some of you think i should be.
I've honestly given MA a huge chance over the years because of their reputation. First song i ever heard was "Where the Slime Live" and i thought it was the best thing ever.....i couldn't get over that solo and still can't.
Then i bought Gateways which was and is a pretty cool album, but it got a little old after a few weeks. I then bought 2-3 other albums.....and have barely even listened to them twice. The only album i've actually been able to listen to from start to finish without forcing myself to do so, was Gateways......the older stuff, even though they have one or two songs which rule off each album, isn't as good.
So maybe i should be excited.....they might be getting better and hopefully H2K3 will own all the previous albums.......but i'm not keeping my hopes up too high.
At least i can expect SOME solos and technicality from this band.

What would be a good album to start with for MA? I seem to remember downloading a few songs and not liking them, but that was a long time ago and they deserve another chance.

excellent news
Straight from the studio diary:
And the beat goes on.........
We are putting the final stuff on the record now. Trey was in last night doing rhythm guitars on the Marshalls and the devastation that is this record unfolded. Tucker comes in today to finish up bass and vocals. If everything stays on track we will be in mix in 5 days. That is if these lightning/thunderstorms don't keep us from working.
Shit's movin' along fast!

*hopes for more amazing solos*

This is some kick ass news!
I just got my first MA album today (DOMINATION), and I thought it was fucking sweet. Even though I’ve been listening to them for a short period of time, I think they kick ass, and now that theirs a new album I have something too look forward to this summer other than N.F.P., and Superjoint Ritual.

maybe its just me, but i think the cover would look better if it was just the one girl, but with the one background blue, and the logo overhead, with "Heretic" down at the bottom.
or! dedicate it to the being of pantera and make it say "HeretiC"

Trey's explanation of the cover:
Guitarist Trey Azagthoth has offered this "fascinating" insight into the meaning behind the artwork:
"The female form on the cover is the Goddess of the Heretic. She has many names — Lilith, Mahummuhu, Amah-Ushumgal-Anna. She dances in the silent spaces in one's thoughts. She embraces those who break free from the chains of conditioning, the prisons of mass hypnosis caused by global indoctrination. Her likeness can be seen in many various religious systems, and with various names.
"As for the fire and the water on the cover, dualism has been a part of many spiritual teachings. In many ancient writings, there is a reference to the four elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth.
"There are as many different interpretations as there are interpreters. In the Qabalah, Air is referred to as the Breath of Awareness, Fire is the Awareness of One's Potential, Water is the Awareness of One's Imagination, and Earth is where it all finalizes as manifestation. In my own interpretation, Fire represents Force, and Water represents Form. These two Principles are apparent in the "great balancing act" of the Universe. Look at our Sun. Here is a perfect example of the interplay of Force and Form. The outward expanding energies being contained by the retracting energies of the gravity. Eventually the force will deplete it's energy and no longer be able to withstand the constricting energy of the gravity and will be crushed in upon itself, but does that mean that Form is the most powerful? I associate Form with entropy sometimes, that always-present energy that seems to eventually erode all things. One must not forget those new stars being created from nothing, elsewhere in the Universe. In the big picture it's all simply necessary.
"The cover also depicts a 'Reflection'. Zero becomes One the instance of self-realization and, by joining with one's 'reflection', 1 becomes 2. 1 plus 2 becomes 3 and this meager interpretation attempts to do the impossible task of defining the Creative Force of the Universe. This is the start of the downfall of the Intellect.

I'm thinking this "Drum Check" track is going to kick huge amounts of ass. If that song is NOT a balls out Sandoval drum solo, then I'd be very surprised.

First of all: It's 'an antichrist motherfucker,' not 'a antichrist motherfucker.'
Secondly: He mentioned Jewish things two times in that little explanation.
Third: The Jews killed Christ. They have very little to do with him.
Fourth: Everything he's said would point to a mystic side, rather than an antichrist motherfucker side. However, all the mystic stuff he collects (Ancient Sumerian stuff, Kabbalah) is from an already organized, though in some cases defunct, RELIGION, which is normally based around a religious group. Is the album fast? Or is kinda at the same tempo as Gateways?

Well, each song differs. It's generally fast though.

I've seen Morbid Angel once, in Montreal. I drove close to 4 hours to see them
play for only 40 minutes. (Voivod, MA, Motorhead).
I was hoping that they would have played longer, being a very established
band and all.
Cover looks amazing. I absolutely love the "Domination" Cover. Try looking
at it while listening to the album. There are many different possible interpretations
there in just that one cover. BTW Green = fav colour
Where the Slime Live = jizz in my pants.
I also liked David Vincent as the singer.
Y'know, Amorphis has this one 'Morbid Angel' sounding song
called "The lost name of God". Very cool song.

Dave Vincent wrote the lyrics to Lions Den. Look here:
"Lyrics:
VINCENT,*except for 'Angel of Disease'/AZAGTHOTH"
Unless they SOMEHOW confused Angel of Disease with Lions Den, that means Azagthoth did NOT write the lyrics. And here's a quote from the booklet/lyric sheet off of Gateways:
"AT ONE WITH NOTHING
Lyrics: Tucker
Music: Azagthoth, Tucker"
A better proof for you, from that very same album, would perhaps be the song, the ONE song, Trey actually did write the lyrics for. But, really, why should I do YOUR homework for you? He wrote the lyrics on Formulas, and that's all pretty pagan shit, including actual Sumerian prayers (which are also there on Altars, among other places). However, 'pagan' is still a religious term. As is 'prayers,' for that matter.
Thank you, and goodnight.

I think Trey might have a jewish background. I've always thought that Azagthoth sounded like a jewish name anyway, if he is that jew sure can play guitar!

Azagthoth a Jewish name? It's not even his real name, it's taken from the Summerian deity/demon Azagoth.

so Trey just sat back and played on a song that insulted his "religion" ok u must looked more fucked up than that bald headed 4 eyed cock sucking loser of a pic u have. Fuck the all religious bullshit kill the jews

You obviously have no clue about great comedians, and are a racist fuck head. And by the way Megadeth 187, Freidman is Jewish.
Oh, and the new art work kills!

The anti-Christian symbol? Oh no, that would DEFINITELY mean he can't be JEWISH! Because Christianity and Judaism are the same thing, of course. The pentagram also means nothing to a Jew. Everything you've pointed out is anti-Christian, which means nothing. I said he's turning Jewish, not that he's a Southern Baptist, ya addleeyed cuntsnout.
Azagthoth is not a Jewish name. As Chad pointed out, it's a fake name, and comes from a Sumerian background. 'Thoth,' incidentally, is the Egyptian god of wisdom, also not Jewish. I think someone noticed it sounded vaguely like 'Roth' and went from there. I can't remember right now his real name, but I don't think it was a Jewish name either.

well thats friedmans choice and i was never into his guitaring that much anyway the only reason im pissed off about this is cause i know Trey isin't Jewish and heres the proof i e-mailed steve tucker and mentioned it through out my e-mail anyway this is what he replyed back to on the topic.
Dude ,Trey isn't a Jew....not religiously anyway (that was a joke) anyone who says that, has to check their info, he is about as far from that as you can get. anyway , thanks later Tucker
Thanks you and goodnight lol

First of all: it's not Friedman's choice, because you can't stop being Jewish once born Jewish. It's a Jewish rule. No other religion has it. It's called the 'mother's vagina rule.'
Second: Steve Tucker should have mentioned that 'anyone telling you that Trey's Jewish is probably fucking with you for his own amusement because you freak out easily and can't pick up on anything sardonic, and are likely a microcephalic cunt.' I can't believe he didn't tell you that. I mean, even if he didn't say that exactly, just the fact that neither he nor you came up with the possibility that I was joking, that you seemed it was more likely that someone actually cared enough to want to know Trey's religion and decided, and honestly believed, that he was Jewish is great. I only wish that you hadn't emailed Tucker so soon, and could've had another outburst. Your credulity is wonderful. And so, I don't think you should be thanking me, it's I that should be thanking you.
But, since you like emailing people so much, email anyone and find out what Kabbalah is. Trey spelled it 'Qabalah,' I think, but that's the same thing. Or where the name 'Lilith' originally comes up. Then maybe you'll see where the joke began.

thats no problem it was a good arguement enjoyed it alot even if u were "joking" and i admit i believed u were n't "joking" but so did others and i never said i cared what his religion was i just knew he was n't a bloody Jew and felt like prooving a point anyway Steve also said he was just getting ready to go do the video for Heretic's Enshrined By Grace

I read a small piece in Revolver magazine saying that the new album will feature polyrythms. It is said t o make the listener think they are listening to two songs at once. Has anyone heard this on the album?

On the subject of Morbid Angel:
Will they release a video for any songs on Heretic?
Did they release a video for Gates album?
I have taped (way back when) the Immortal Rites, God of Emptiness,
and Where the Slime Live, videos.
Am I missing any?

i am anticipating this album...i will probably buy it...but judging by the soundfile of "Enshrined by Grace", i fear it will be their worst and softest album yet...

MORE NEWS ON IT...ONLY 12 DAYS LEFT UNTIL DAY "H"
fFROM BLABBERMOUTH.COM
MORBID ANGEL: 'Heretic' To Be Released In Different Formats - Sep. 11, 2003
MORBID ANGEL's forthcoming CD, "Heretic", will be released in several different formats, according to the group's label, Earache Records.
"Heretic" — due in the U.S. on September 23 (a day earlier internationally) through Earache Records — was recorded and mixed at D.O.W. (Diet Of Worms) studios in Seffner, Florida and was co-produced by the band and longtime front-of-house mixing engineer Juan "Punchy Gonzalez. The album — the group's ninth overall release (including their 1986 "Abominations Of Desolation" demo and the 1996 live album, "Entangled In Chaos") — marks a return to the fold of bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker, who originally left the band in early April 2001 due to "personal and family problems."
The following versions of "Heretic" will be available, according to Earache.com:
01. Box set — "Heretic" CD plus an 18-track unreleased "Bonus Levels" CD and free "Heretic" sticker, all housed in Deluxe Box. Available in stores in Germany only, or direct to your door from Earache's webstore.
02. Double Disc Slipcase — "Heretic" CD plus "Bonus Levels" CD housed in slipcase. Available from Earache USA on wholesale basis only.
03. Double Disc — comes with "Bonus Levels" CD. Available in stores everywhere.
04. 12" Vinyl Picture Disc — available from vinyl specialist stores everywhere.
05. Regular Single-Disc CD — available from stores that have no clue about the double-disc edition!

I bought it last week, heard it some times
and it's very good(well it's Morbid Angel
it couldn't have been bad),better than Formulas Fatal To The
Flesh(their worst in my opinion) but not as good as
Gateways To Annihilation. The only thing that
I didn't like were all those tracks inbetween the songs
and at the end.

Well, I came back here for the very rare occasion of telling you assholes that yes, the CD is good from the first listen, but it'll still probably take some time to grow on me. I doubt it'll be better than Domination, nothing is probably capable, but Enshrined by Grace sure is fucking cool, so aren't the extras.

Some how I think that part was all staged. But if so, then hahha
really funny and awesome. Pete is a great drummer, I think Divine Empire needs him to play drums hahaha Alex Marquez is weak. They album did dissapoint me alot
especially when I spent 18 bucks on it, but when I d/l ed the mp3s I thought it was
good, but when I bought the album and heard it at home I was like "WHAT?! most of it is somewhat poo poo?" and whats the whole of having Karl Sanders in one of the
songs just to add a shit load of noise (hahaha).
