Controlled Feedback?
I was reading this thing about Eddie Van Halen's Respect the Wind, and how there was controlled feedback. How do you do this? I seen a pedal called the Boss Feedbacker, but it got horrible reviews. I'm not exactly sure where the controlled feedback is in the song, but I want to be able to do it. Does any one use the pedal and like it? The only thing that was positive in the reviews was the fact it was a Boss, so it was reliable. Other than that, it was considered noise. Is there a way to do it without a pedal? I want to be able to hold a note for a while.

let's see.....you want to hold a note (sustain it) and create controlled feedback....
best gadget:
Fernandes Sustainer
http://www.fernandesguitars.com/sustainer/
the pros like Kerry King and Steve Vai use it, so it's good enough for them
but it's a bit pricey, and it's recommended that you not install it yourself.

That thing looks sweet. Can you turn it off so it doesn't sustain or feedback, or does it have to do one or the other?

you can turn it off
SUSTAINER CONTROLS:
ON/OFF switch: (Black toggle switch) The On position activates the Fernandes Sustainer and automatically selects the bridge pickup while deactivating the pickup selector and the neck pickup. The off position deactivates the Fernandes Sustainer, reactivates the pickup selector and allows the Sustainer driver to function as a normal neck pickup.
