Unhappy Shredding

I'm having problems shredding. I can shred on the e and a strings but not accurately on the others. Its really pissing me off as i cant play what i want to play accurately. Is there a special technique to shredding like holding the pick in a certain way, using certain types of picks or placing your wrist at a certain angle? please help

Yes. They key to shredding or anyother technique you fancy is to slowly PRACTICE. But espically for shredding, you should pick up a metronome. Garenteed all your favorite shredders used them. If you need help how to use one, contact me.

begin with slow practice is the best way to learn it correct. Using your foot or a metronome will help you, not loosing the feeling for the measure. And if can play it slowly, make steps. try to get faster, if you can play your tab absolut correctly. It will help you avoiding play wrong technikes. If you learn something wrong, you will have trouble to play the future tabs correctly. Try it and you will see, that this is the best way to learn the right way. I have need two years to play scales and sweeps, so that thay sounds good. Now i can play them up and down, with closed eyes

the only way you, myself and anyone else is gonna get better on guitar is by praticing and not giving up. i usually use a thick pick and put it on a slight angle, i find it easy to pick faster

WHAT KIND OF ANGLE? THE TIP OF THE PICK DOWN OR UP ? OR DO YOU MEAN
YOUR PICK ISN'T PARALLEL TO YOUR STRING?

usually, il just play as fast as i can, or play anything that gives me any difficulty as fast as i can.

then, il back off a bit with the speed, so im playing with a bit more accuracy.

then, il speed up again till im making too many mistakes.

and so on.... it only took me a couple of months playing less than an hour a day, if i could be bothered. and i can shred.

I've seen alot of people do that, and I dont like it at all. Its to much to pick up between strings and you scrap to much. I like usuing point and only slightly turned that way I can avoid scrappage.

I just take a heavy pick (Peavys are my favorites), place my for fingers on the guitar for stability and just do up/down alternate picking (although that is obvious). I don't really use any angles. Try practicing the alternate picking first then as you get up there, start to play with the cds like Cannibal Corpse and Shadows Fall

I warn you: DO NOT PLAY SHADOWS FALL! That will actually deplete you guitar skills. Espically for shredding which they do none of, don't even talk about them. Cannibal is good for riffage but solos they lack thier of. If you want expiernce in shredding, try some Cacophony. Theres also Ynview Malmsteen and Becker but they tend to be more advanced.

Beckers advanced but Yngwie seems a little basic to me. Why don't you like Shadows Fall's solos?

if ur into metallica they have a lot of easy solos. if u are looking to shred and make up your own shit i would strongly advise to learn ur scales, u'll be going nowhere without them

Megadeth has got some really good shredding riffs. Cacophony is the side project for the two guitarists. Its megadeth meets Becker, very cool stuff i sugest to check it out for shredding.
