Why doesn't he just admit that at this time Anselmo and the two brothers just can't get along and have very different views on which path Pantera should evolve. Aardschok reported that the band was in Ireland doing interviews (journalists even said that they wouldn't even wanna sit in the same room with each other) and that the atmosphere was quite hostile.
Then 11th september came and instead of staying in the "safe" Europe and avoiding taking planes ,they each took the first flight home (apart).
Of course Slayer went on with the tour, risking the lives of hundreds of thousands of courageous metal fans all over Europe.

Why can't Vinnie Paul just admit that after 14 years together the Pantera members have changed towards each other musically and feel the need to do other stuff and I have a feeling that it's been like this for 4 or 5 years. I've never been much of a big Pantera fan to begin with. But i can say that Anselmo brings the band down a bit at concerts....going on drunk half the time and ruining what could have been an amazing show. Sure some people find it funny cause they see it once of twice in their life......but the bandmates see this night after night......i wouldn't be able to stand being around a man who does this.

I, too, have never been a HUGE Pantera fan. But one thing I will say is that Pantera is the best LIVE metal band I've ever heard (just listen to Live... 101 Proof). The performances are flawless, from time to time even surpassing what was done in the studio. But Anselmo does tend to drag them down.

And Pantera has never been about "image," it's always been about the MUSIC, so they don't even need Anselmo. If he can't pick himself up, they should give him the boot.

well, i AM a HUGE pantera fan, and yeah, phil does tend to act a bit retarded when he's really drunk, personally,i don't mind, but i understand that it bothers some people. but i have to admit, the last time i saw them(last march), phil wasn't drunk, and he was fuckin awesome as hell!! His voice was the best i'd ever heard, he didn't mess up any lyrics or anything (oh, and he didn't puke onstage, which i saw him do once, and it was rather gross)..........but even when phil is drunk, pantera is still probably the best live band......but i've seen them 7or 8 times, so i do hope they do their own side projects so that i can see DOWN!!!

well, Phil has been doing that (getting drunk and performing) for a long time......if the other guys didn't like it, don't you think they would've booted him already?

If i were in the band...at first i would think it's funny. Cause i would think it's something that would happen maybe once in every 100 concerts. But after it started happening almost all the time, i'm sure i would get annoyed and pissed off about it. The people come to hear the music, and they don't want to come see a drunken singer screwing up half his lyrics and puking on stage. His performance when sober is probably a hundred times better than drunk too, so i think he should keep the drinking till after the concert.

you only need to watch some of the recent videos from Ozzfest to hear some of the shit he goes on with. In the Cowboys one he goes"were a heavy metal band man........and goddamn were geat. Lets hear it, oh shit we're awesome!" and sounded like a complete tool.

Last time I seen them,Phil was not drunk at all.He sounded so fuckin' good.
And they would of already kicked Phil out of the band if they were getting tired of him being drunk.Sometimes,Dime is even buzzed or more on the drunk side onstage too.If any of you ever thought about that.
Bands always have fights,Im in a related kind of fight right now with my band mate's.
These thing's are normal,fighting is normal.If you don't like seeing Phil onstage,don't fuckin' buy a ticket to see them,please.
And who cares about the cancelled tour with Slayer,that was last year and people are still bitching about it.If I had an excuse not to tour after I've been doing it for a year and a half,I would say for safety issues too.

First off no I wouldn't be pissed. It's Pantera not U2. When you have a guitarist named DIMEBAG you aren't expected to be clear eyed and sober all the time. And second, when the fuck does all this shit you talk about happen, I've seen Pantera live, and Phil is always clearly the driving member. He goes out and always gives a great show. I agree,Pantera is going downhill,what happened to the Trendkill? now they are hanging out with bands like Static X and Skrape,and I just heard a live recording of Disturbed doing a Walk cover,and the singer was bragging about how Pantera was hanging out with them and they got drunk together.....if Pantera is the Great Southern Trendkill, why are they hanging out with the trend.
They've been going downhill ever since Reinventing The Steel was released.

Well if you read the interviews that they had around that time, the trends that they were against was something called "ALTERNATIVE MUSIC" and if I was so ambitious, I'd type up Dime's interview about it in my old Guitar World. Alternative's faded out, so now they can be a big happy bunch. And who gives a fuck about who they party with anyway? Just because you're in a band doesn't mean you have to live up to everyone else's standards of you. Fuck I'd go get drunk with a bunch of rappers if I was friends with them, why the hell not?

And I'm still planning on getting my CFH tattoo here in the near future, and no matter how long Pantera lasts, I'm gonna be proud of that motherfucker.

If someone is a TRUE fan of Pantera, with a CFH tatoo...it wouldn't matter if the band broke up or not. YOu make it sound like as soon as the band breaks up, everyone will stop listening to them and forget they ever existed!

Bands never last forever, so at one point or another, they will break up or just end. It's innevitable. If someone thinks that by getting a CFH tatoo, in hopes that it'll always be true cause Pantera will somehow last for eternity, even though that's impossible, then the person's a fool. True fans of any bands don't care about how "important" a tatoo is, it just represents their love of the band, end of story.

If i got a Slayer tatoo tomorrow, and the band broke up the day after, i wouldn't regret getting the tatoo, cause it still represents my liking of that band.

What's the big deal? It's their fucking band, and they can do whatever the fuck they want with it.
The way i see it, they've been fucking touring, and fucking partying, and fucking playing awesom fucking tunes for a long while now. But the fact of the matter is, people wear out, and they change. They're musical preferences change (mine sure as fuck did)and they learn shit. The way i see it, is PanterA may be getting tired of doing "the same ol' shit". All the side projects are just help back this up. And maybe they're getting sick of "the whole trendkill, we are metal" deal. I sure as fuck know that phil has changed (he sings now, has a lot more emotion, and shows sides of him that aren't just anger). But if they do break up, i'll be the first to agree, that theres gonna be a lot of shit happenin'. Fans are gonna be pissed, gonna label them, gonna say "fuck them, fuck pantera". And the reality of it is this, then they aren't fucking fans.
We've got to stop lookin at musicians like they're idols, or gods. They're just fucking people like you and I. Why do you think there are so many drug overdoses, suicides, etc. When related to musicians. Cuz they're just fucking people, who can't go to the corner store, to a show, anywhere, with out being "the person from that band". Autographs, fame, blah blah. They get old. Just let em live there life. They want to break up, then all the better for them. I'd rather them break up, then go on, not enjoying what they're doing and just writing mediocre tunes for the masses of ignorant fans.
And PanterA wasn't neccessarily against "alternative'. I've seen a couple of interviews with phil, where he's talking about Kurt Cobain (the "creator" of mainstream alternative). And phil liked kurt, liked what he standed for. If you listen or have listened to Nirvana, then you'd understand. Just because it became mainstream, metal heads gave it a bad name. NIrvana is the equavilent of PanterA, in emotion. Sure kurt sucks compared to dime, dave blows ass compared to vinnie, and krist sucks dick compared to rex. But it's not necessarily about their technical talent. It's more about emotional talent. Kurt screamed like a mother fucker, sure his screams don't compare with phils, but he vented all his anger, angst, deppression, etc. Into his music. That's why it became so popular. Teens like the way that he just let loose. Liked his passion for music. Liked how it broke away from the cock-rock fags of the 80's where any musician could pick up a guitar, put on some tight pants and make up and become "pop" hits. Like the britney spear's of today. So i'm just sick of peopel labelling Nirvana as the decay of music in this generation. They just played they're tunes, and it opened up peoples minds. It helped other music genres to excel, and i'm not against that. Cuz we all fucking know that people are different. and people like different music. If everyone listened to metal, then metal would be the o-so-spoken-of "trend". It's great to have other music. Some love metal all the time, i'm one of the people who listen to everything. I'll be listening to tunes and one song will be DMX, the next Cypress hill, then fucking pantera, then even pink floyd, and tom petty. Music is a universal language, and every different genre is someone's art.

As Vinnie Paul put it himself rumors are just that. Anyone can start them and anyone can finish them. So don't always believe what you hear unless you see it for yourself. These guys have been together for a long time and of course at points there will be tension between the bandmates! But Rex obviously doesn't have a problem because he joined Down and not too long ago Phil did a song with the brothers and David Allen Coe. To me that just says there was or is just some momentary tension between them.
Also, I saw Pantera last March and Phil was not drunk on stage and the show was awesome! But I also saw them four months earlier where Phil was trashed and they played just as well. Given there were a couple less rambling speaches, but those just add to the atmosphere of the show. And if anyone has seen any of the videos, they all get fucked up before during and after the shows. Anyway they are the greatest metal band of all time so hail the kings.

And one last thing If pantera were to break up, phil is unreplaceable. No one sounds like him and quite frankly in the metal genre no one has the fucking stge presence or commands respect the way phil does. Pantera could go on, but not as pantera.

Well, that all depends on how much you like to hear talking...

The times I've seen Pantera live, Phil talks between songs. It was a little too much at the Extreme Steel Tour, but wasn't bad at Ozzfest 2000. I've seen Slayer once, and Araya didn't do much else than announce song titles, so I'd put Phil above Araya as a frontman.

And I just don't like CoF that much, so I definitely put Phil over Dani.

I don't think PanterA will break up any time soon, even if there is tensions, they just love doing what they're doing in PanterA that it'll just kind of slide away, there's so much passion when PanterA plays live, they really get into it, they won't stop. And hell yeah, Phil is awesome, he really gets into the show, he knows what the crowd wants (some kick ass metal) and he gives it w/o hesitation!

I'm with FD.....Araya rules over Phil. Sure he doesn't talk much.....but, we pay for music, not for his rambling.

When i saw them at the extreme steel tour...he didn't waste anytime..all he did was make fun of idiots in the crowd (which was awesome!! ARAYA RULES!!) and made little intros to each songs.....especially the new ones which no one had heard yet.

Dani Filth was pretty cool too......he made a few jokes and walked around the stage, screaming and yelling sometimes, all awesome and shit.

All Phil did was yell "Goddamn motherfuck shit piss yeah!!"
