Damn, Iced Earth is screwed....
Singer Matt Barlow and Lead Guitarist Larry Tarnowski have BOTH quit Iced Earth. Right before the new album too........
So, their album which was supposed to come out in a few months will be shelved. Jon says he will continue with IE though...........
People like Jon have to learn, his type of band can never work well. When one guy, who isn't the singer, has full control of the band and doesn't let the rest of the band participate in writing and such, it does not work. Matt's departure wasn't cuz he was pissed at Jon, but I'm sure the extensive line up IE has had involved some members leaving because of anger.
As for the new album, I'm sure there will be another Melancholy/ I Died For You, etc....

Yep...Iced Earth recycle too much for their albums, that's why after 2 weeks of liking them, I now really hate them. Jon really sucks at songwriting IMHO, all his songs sound the same.

Iced Earth is way to overrated, Jon Schaffer is better in Demons and Wizard.

I would think any tour dates will be cancelled.
Jon shouldn't try to replace Barlow. He should find a new path to take the band.
Jon already does some IE vocals. He should get another dude who plays guitar or keys and sings and do a total split vocals part. It would also be cool if he could get a line up that he would let participate instead of just looking at them as hired help.
I like how in each album where it lists the line up, it will say stuff like:
Matt Barlow - Vocals
Richard Christy - Drums
But Jon finds every little thing to put down for him, just to make him look important
John Schaffer - Lead, Rhythm and Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, Keyboards, Mandolin, Cheese, I Rule, Everyone Else in IE Sucks cock, Guitar, Fiddle, Guitar, Guitar, Richard does the Drums but I am sure that I inspire him with my demi-god like presense so put me down for Drums AND Percussion, Guitar, I can play the Bass Guitar too, Les Claypool has nothing on me, IE rules over Primus, Guitar and all other Guitar like aparatuses.
Primus kicks IE's ass IMO..........

Yeah I heard the news a while ago, it sucks. I didn't particularly like the direction they were headed with horror show, but the previous records kick ass.

My biggest complaint with Horrow Show was that the a lot of the songs didn't match the feel and theme of the movie. Wolf being the biggest offender of them all.

I don't know, Taranowski can be replaced, but Barlow was easily their best vocalist. The guy from Stormrider was good but their first singer was like a shitty Bobby Blitz. On a sidenote though, Jon Schaffer deserves every bit of credit he gets, if he's overrated, everyone's overrated.

I actually laughed when I heard their first album with that horrible singer. They were lucky to get Barlow. If Jon would have let him write more stuff, maybe he would have stayed. Tarnowski easily wrote IE's best solos, so whoever they get probably won't be an improvement.
Also, I'm sure that Jon scrapped the few riffs that he let Tarnowski put on the new album. I'm sure that they will get replaced with shittier stuff quickly thrown together by Jon. He might keep some of Barlow's lyrics...........
The entire album may be written by Jon, which won't be good, but I'll still buy it.

eh, it really doesn't matter if Steve Vai joined. Schaffer won't allow him to play as much as one note of his own......
It's just hired help.

ICED EARTH FUCKING RULES
do you know why matt leaved IE?
this is from the band's bandboard:
"In December of last year, prior to Iced Earth signing a new record deal,
Jon and I had a sit-down concerning what I felt was best for my future and the
future of Iced Earth. I told him that my heart was no longer into performing
music and I intended to stand down from my position in the band in pursuit of
what I felt would be a more satisfying career and consequently a more
fulfilled life. Jon was very adamant that I should not leave the band, and asked me
not to do something that I might live to regret. I was compelled to stay with
it, but as it turns out my course had remained altered.
For you to understand my position on this matter, I feel I must explain
myself. As for many people, in and outside of the United States, the events of
September 11, 2001 had a profound impact. For me personally, it shined a new
light on life. It forced me to realize how precious and how short life is. I
feel very fortunate to have been a part of something that has affected so many
throughout the world, but I believe that what I am striving for will also
reflect positively on those I come in contact with.
I am presently going to school in order to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in
Criminal Justice Administration. When I have received my degree, I intend to
follow with a career in law enforcement administration.
I realize that it may be difficult for some of you to understand the decision
that has been made, but please believe that it has been made to preserve the
integrity of Iced Earth. I know that there will be people who bad-mouth the
band and me for this and that there will never be a good enough explanation.
For those people, I feel pity that they must live through others and I hope
that someday they will find themselves in another place. I have been on a great
ride with all of you and I have not a single regret. There are great things
to come from Iced Earth and we will all be there to witness them.
I wish Jon and the guys well and I thank you in advance for your support and
understanding.
Best wishes,
Matt "
