amps and pedals

I am a big fan of Children of Bodom. i record my own music that is similar in style, but how do I get my guitar to sound as good as his. I learned some of their songs like "lake Bodom" "Children of decadence" "Bed of razors" and others but it sounds like shit when i play it, even if i play it perfect. I can play, but i dont know shit about equipment. If i could get some feedback on amp set-ups and pedals to make my lead sound more rich and powerful, that would be great.

heres a tip, never use the word "feedback" on this section of the board if your talking about some tips or help about a subject. It'll get people confused into thinking you wanna know how to get feedback.

What kinda stuff are you using now?

a good amp and a guitar with descent pickups allways help if its the distortion you don't like, you can use an fx pedal to get a better distortion, since good amps are pretty expensive.
