Modifying a trem?

I'm getting stuff for my homemade guitar right now, and I've come across a cheap Original Floyd. The only thing that I dislike about it is that it has a screw-in arm, instead of the other type (the one you put in the hole, and then use a separate nut to tighten it). It's not a big deal, but I was wondering, what you guys would think about modifying it?

The threads in the hole can easily be drilled away. I do have access to the tools needed to cut new threads on the outside. And I do have a spare trem arm of the type that I want. I don't know if the radii are close enough, but they might be.

What do you think about this idea?

what don't you like about the screw in trem? does it get in the way?

anyways, yeah you can do it, I guess, just get hold of the other type of trembar and you're set... I don't have any problems with the screw in trembars though.

I never make sure to drop the arm in the same direction as I picked it up, so to speak. So sometimes when using screw in arms, they get stuck, because I've got them too far screwed in, and sometimes they've fallen out of the trem, and that's kinda embarrassing.

Would you think that a modified trem is less worth than a non-modified one?

Yeah, I suppose you could do it, but wouldn't it be easier to just replace the arm holder?

Eh? The arm holder is replaceable? How much would an arm holder be (roughly)?

I didn't know they sold two types....

anyways, yeah I get your point, it sucks when the trem gets stuck, but yeah I guess your idea will work, just get a trembar that fits (longer end around the angled corner)

They shouldn't be too expensive... probably a couple bucks. I'm assuming you can just pop that sucker out of there. I don't know original Floyd's too well, but on the Ibanez edges/lopro's, you can take it out with a flathead screwdriver and a deep socket wrench...

Cool. I guess I'll have a look as soon as I get the trem (if I get it).
