Melodic Bands
Does anyone know of any bands which play good melodic death/black metal a bit like At the Gates or Amon Amarth?

Don't forget Enter My Silence... that's close. You didn't really pick two very melodic bands there compared to other stuff.

Only great Katatonia were "Dance of December Souls" or "Jhva Elohim..." released in early Katatonia's times, when it was truely doomish melodic BLACK metal. Today's Katatonia is In My Opinion crappy stuff.
Other melodic stuff:
Summoning's all
Immortal's Pure Holocaust
Darkthrone's A Blaze In the Northern Sky
Vlad Tepes' side in the split with Belketre (March to the Black Holocaust)

Gardenian
Eternal
Nightwish
Darkcity
Gardenian is one of my favorite melodic death metal bands. They're kinda like In Flames, but I like them much better.

FINALLY! I've been waiting to get my account fixed so I could post on this one... I spent a long time searching for bands that fit this description and I've found plenty... here are a few (pardon the repeats, but I posted this before and I"m just gonna copy and paste)
has noone mentioned At The Gates?!
Don't forget Bal Sagoth...
A Canorous Quintet
Amortis
Soilwork
Old Therion
Edge of Sanity
Hypocrisy
Thyrfing (duh)
Finntroll
Gardenian
Haggard
The Haunted
Eucharist
Satyricon
Eternal Tears of Sorrow (prolly mentioned already, but worth saying again)
Eternal Oath
Enslavement of Beauty
Enforsaken (undergroundish band that really kicks ass!)
Carcariass (AWESOME!)
Embraced
Ebony Tears
CARCASS!!!!!
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
Diabolical
Amorphis
Night In Gales (Nailwork)
Non Serviam
Quo Vadis
On Thorns I Lay
God Dethroned
Primordial
Tuatha De Danann
Ved Buens Ende
SUSPERIA!
SKYFIRE!!
Shadows Fall
Siebenbürgen
most viking metal bands/folk metal are melodic too... there are tons i don't know in those genres
these are just the bands I have music for and listen to
there are more and there are bands I have heard of but never listened to, but I'll leave it at that for now... :-D

Name a use for it.
OK, I'm very pedantic, hehehehehe!
And humourless (that's how we spell it in England, the proper way, hehe!).

I think these guys are pretty melodic. Everyone else that I would've suggested already was.

Exactly! They're trying, God bless their little souls, but failing miserably. ATG will never be equalled in their genre and I wish newer bands would stop trying to emulate them.
