I have found awesome melody and riffing, how do I find out if they already exist?
Hail!
I just found some great riffs (not only my opinion)!
but someone told me he recognizes them, like from a famous band that used it already.
How can I find out if this riff really exists?
Because if I use it in a song for our band, SABAM or the (famous) band can screw us... (copywright or what's that stuff...)
Thanks
Greetings

He might recognize it because it sounds similar, but the chances of it being one hundred percent exact is pretty slim. You might be playing it a half a step or, or a half step down, or one not could be different. Dont worry about it. The chances of making it big are slim anyways.

id say use the riffs until someone can come to you with an album and say "listen there is that riff" so dont worry about it

if you didn´t copy the riff you shouldn't worry.
...but it's always possibe that you have listen to those songs before and later you made those same riffs, coyping them but not on pourpose.
if you can make sure that your riffs come from you head you shouldn't give a fuck if they are similiar to something else.
Anyways... what is a riff?! ...i think the idea of onw whole song it's impossible to be composed by to seperated artists. Making music has no end of possibilities

a riff is a part on guitar that makes the whole song there can be many riffs in a song or just a few hmm lets see lets take war ensemble by slayer (cause i was just listnign to it) the first really fast thing the guitar plays would be riff#1 then after it does that a few times ot goes into a different guitar part riff#2 then when the lyrics start they change guitar parts again going into riff #3 then back to riff#2 with a breif little brisge thing then riff#3 then they do a variation of riff#2 its has the same beggining but a different ending well anyway thats one explenation maybe someone else might want to give theirs

you neednt worry as long as the riff has come out from your head.....if you want it to sound different then add some other parts over that riff or sumthing.....there are so many bands out there each with their own style...so the chances of not bumping into any such style are pretty less.....so dont worry
KMFDM (sp?) copied the entire angel of death riff into one of their songs

Go ahead and use it because there are plenty of other bands that sound like each other, so why would another one hurt?
The only way I think you'll find if the riff is already exsisting is if you happen to hear it or somone else lets you listen to the song. Like everyone else said, chances of it being an exact replica are slim, but if the sound is to close for comfort for you - or like your material to be (more) original, just alter it abit... or a lot.
