re; death metal singing
Just relax when your singing, drink some water or beer so your vocal chords don't get dry and cup the microphone with your hands like corey taylor.

Well, drinking water is okay, but not too cold water, that'll fuck up your vocal chord thingys and you'll sound like a sexy lady in no time.
yoghurt does the trick better, it builds slime in your troathe, emn, the way of singing, use your diaphram, sing out loud but try to close your troathe a little, ehm, get tension on your vocal chord thingies, like try to make a choking sound, that's the way to use the diaphram.

I actually sing in a death metal band and if you can get your voice deep enough, you don't need to cup your hands around the mic. Def was right in describing how to do it, at first water will help but after you do it awhile it won't phase you anymore. Also kind of hard to picture but if your lips are in a small 'O' shape it will be deeper and if your mouth is open wider you can get more of a shriek/scream. Finally, whether you play and sing or just sing, if you can keep your neck and head looking pretty much straight forward (normal position) you can get a pretty good tone, if your head is lower, your voice is deeper, if your head is higher slightly facing the ceiling, you can have more breath to sing longer lines.
That last section applies to me at least, so just try positioning your neck/head in different positions to get depper/higher sounds. Hope it helps

George does not make a belching sound when he growls. What I do
is; I push a crap load of air I breathe in, out...Try to push the air out as hard as you
can handle it. When I go perform I try my best not to tire myself out,
I kinda take a 3 minute break after every song we perform.

Yep. It's all about the lung power when tryin' to mock CorpseGrinder. Take as much air into your lungs as possible, and push it out as hard and fast as you can. Do it from the bottom of your lungs. Your gonna sound like a gimp at first. I know I did. I sounded so fuckin' dumb, I could barely keep from laughing at myself while I worked on it. And you'll probably sound like that for at least a week or two, but don't give up on it right away. Nowadays, I can pull off decent "The Bleeding" era Chris Barnes/ "Once Upon The Cross" Glen Benton vox. Not exactly what I want to sound like, but that's what smoking will do to your throat. DO NOT SMOKE. Especially if you want to sound like corpsegrinder. All that will do is make you all raspy sounding. build your lung power up. A lot of guys try and do that gurgle shit from their THROAT, and cupping their mouths in an O shape. But your never gonna be heard that way. a mic won't pick it up very well, and to even be able to hear yourself you'll have to turn the PA up so loud that it will feed back every time you stop singing. Go from the bottom of your lungs, and bellow it out like you would at your younger brother for touching your guitar. Try it along with CD's of your vocal inspirations. Push yourself to the point where you can keep up with them speed wise. If you can make "Pounded Into Dust" sound like the CD, you can sing ANY Death Metal. And this will also help you subconsiously start shaping your vocal chords to mimic the singer your tryin' to mimic. And it doesn't matter how high or deep your voice is. The more lung power you can develop, the easier it will be. Phil the original singer from Prophecy is a perfect example of that. His voice is probably a bit higher than mine and he can go lower than I can. But, any ways most importantly work on lung power.

Oh yeah, and try drinking HOT water. That will make your vocal chords expand, and you'll have better range. In fact, don't drink ANYTHING cold before you sing. And don't drink anything but water or, tea, or coffee. never tried the yogurt thing. can't stand the shit, and slime just sounds like it's gonna give you a gurgly sound. But whatever works.

i can sing pretty much like david vincent (old singer from morbid angel) and trey azagthoth when he sings invocational of the continual one (also morbid angel)
the trick is to not sing loud, but like really raspy....
i have to practice for about 3 minutes first though, to get it right, but thats nto really a problem.

I don't remember who in this post wanted to sing along the lines of Cannibal Corpse, but I really agree w/ them. I like Cannibal Corpse because you can actually understand what is being sung. Its not all that type of stuff that I could do after a 2 liter of soda. I like their style the best.

When developing vocals I think it's important to find your own style and not try to mimic other singers. It's easier to perfect your own voice to sound good rather than perfecting it to sound like someone else. If every death metal vocalist sounded the same it would be a shitty genre. Take for example these vocalists: Chris Barnes, Barney Greenway, Chuck Shuldiner...all great vocalists in similar types of music that sound nothing alike.
Good Luck w/ your vox

I was told by someone that "the Metal Vocalists just do the grudge thing, then they add more air to it." apparently, this is death metal, not just metal. You can try to sound like other artists, but be careful which ones to choose. Like Mikael from Opeth. It Basicly Depends on your vocals. You cant just immidiatly sound like it. I could barely produce a rumble when i first tried. The More you do it the better you get. but keep in mind that once your vocal chords start hurting that you need to stop.
