how many of u guys have tremolo locking systems?
i personally dont care for them cuz of the changing of strings process(so my guitar doesnt have one), but how many of u fellows have a guitar equiped with a tremolo locking system? i had one 7-stringer for a while that had one, and that was the whole reson i gave it up. so do u prefer it? why/why not?

personally i cant stand tremolo's, they just get in the way. i'd much rather use a hardtail or string-thru

I used to hate locking tremolos too but once you set it, it kicks major ass. Dai, the Floyd Rose is a "floating" bridge. Its held up by the strings, therefore you have to fuck with the back of the guitar to set it right when you change tunings or string gauges. There's also two bolts on the front that adjusts how high the strings are. Its a pretty complex system (especially when changing strings)

A licensed Floyd on my KE3.
I just can't stand Gibson style Tunomatics, the are too high, so my hand can't rest easily on the body. I don't find string changing to be a problem, nor "spring fucking". I don't use the trem often, it's just that when I need a it, I don't want a non-locking trem (they go out of tune too easily).

i think i have something like that
it has two posts and the springs and the strings pull the bridge against them

yes, i do, and i don't mind.
i think it helps a little with the tuning, like if you do a dive.

i too have a locking tremolo. they kick ass.
and you should change the strings one at a time, it makes it alot easier to change a set of strings. make sure you give the strings a chance to stretch before you lock them in place.

some of you guys obviously don't know how to operate a Floyd...it stays in tune for a long ass time, you don't have to fuck with them if its set right, and it should take 30 min max to change strings.

I bought my KE3 a few months ago, and it came tuned in E, and I usually tune in Eb. It took me about 15 to get it down to Eb (I looked too much at how the trem worked, instead of just tuning...). A few weeks later, I decided to change strings and clean the fretboard, and that took a total of 30 min, of which 20 was time for the fretboard cleaning stuff to dry.
0.08?? Hell, that's thin. You must cut your fingertips open...

i have a licensed floyd on my old ibanez.. it's about 9 years old now, and the damn thing always goes out of tune when i masturbate it.
anybody know what's up? do the springs need replaced? the bridge doesn't go back to where it should, and i set it up just like it should be. i even took it to a guitar shop and had them set it up for me when i got frustrated.. and it was no better. i've never heard people changing their springs on them, but is mine that old? i might be taking it apart soon to see if theres something else wrong with it. id love an original..
they kick ass when they work!

i have a locking trem on my ibanez. an ibanez edgepro II. true it's a bitch to change the strings and tune, but once you get it all set up and shit, it will faithfully stay in tune until you decide to remove the locking nut and change the strings. then it's hell all over again. but yeah, a 30 minute string change is worth it if you want incredible tuning stability.
setting up the bridge and the guitar however is another story. it took me a week to set it up perfectly. that means i had to fuck with the truss rod, the trem springs, the two height posts on the bridge, and the spring tree. i even had to add another spring. it was the price to pay for changing from 9's to 11's but it definately was worth it. i cant wait to get EMG's for this bitch. anyone want to suggest a good single coil EMG (for the center pick up)?
i'm thinking 2 EMG 85's for the neck and bridge, and an EMG S or SA.

this is an old thread, and i just bumped it because it was relevant to my question.. maybe i should've started a new one, though.
does anybody know what would cause my licensed floyd to suck so much? i remember it being pretty decent when i got the guitar, but that was 9 years ago. now the bridge doesn't go back to the right position after i whammy it or even just press down on the bridge with my hand.
maybe this is important: it doesn't seem to be able to level out well, because the higher end (gbe side) is always elevated more than the bottom. i've tried to level them out with the action adjustment screws, but it still wasn't right. i try to compensate by tightening the spring more than the other side (the one that connects to the gbe side is tightened more), so it's kind of lopsided.
would this cause it to not return to the correct level after it's moved? or do the springs need replaced?
i've used others' licensed FRs and they never sucked this much. im lookin at getting an original but am freakin broke. the guitar is old, and i just gave this guitar to my girl. i can't afford to do much more than get new strings for a while though.. is that part of the problem?

just get new springs. it shouldnt cost you that much. and if your really crafty, sneak an allen wrench to the guitar store and steal the locking nuts from one of the guitars. that could be part of the reason.

I've got an original floyd in my v and a ZR trem on my ibanez. I have to have a guitar with a trem mainly because its so much fun and you can piss around with them so much.
Changing strings and setting it up is really piss easy, takes me about 20 mins to changes strings. The ZR trem on my ibanez fucking rocks, maybe even better than my original floyd

Yeah, I find nothing hard about changing strings on my Jackson SL-1 whcih has an Orginal Floyd rose. Licensed ones suck, they are made with cheaper material and made if alot of parts. They are far from solid, and are known to break quickly. Fuck Floyd, my next guitar shall have a Kahler.

well the locking nuts aren't the problem.. its gotta be on the bridge end. i'll replace the springs and even them back out. maybe my action will be normal when i get an original or khaler.
is there a problem with putting a flat trem system on a guitar that already has the hole dug out for a floyd?

I have the same problem you have, I think my RG is slightly older then 9 years though, I am not the first owner.
But my RG's floyd trem support posts are lose, and they cause my trem to go out of tune all the time.
they are about $20 to get and piss easy to replace, you just have to pull the old posts out, the mount and all, and dab glue and push in the new posts, and then put the trem back in, it may be easier to take into a shop for you and have the local tech replace the support pegs if you dont want to,
but they losen up like a scre in bar thast used, it slowly starts to jiggle in the hole and the screw in part of the support post does the same, I use my trem quite violently so that would explain my situation with the posts, I have my bridge locked down with pennies until I can afford to replace the strings, carve down the heel and replace the posts, I may have a set to put in from an old guitar, but I have to see
now as for the trem question, I love the trems, I use mine all the time when it is actually able to be used, I love trem work in solos, specially the things like Steve Vai and Chris Amott come up with.

I think that either the posts being loose, or your knife edges worn down would cause that.
