Jackson Soloist

http://www.onlinestagegear.com/instock-usa/SL1LH-GMG/

How would this particular model of the Soloist work for playing metal? My local store doesn't have the same guitar, but I've played on similar ones and they're nice.

I'm mainly wondering about the neck pickups.

single coils are ok for metal, but it seems humbuckers work better. but besides that, the jackson would be great for metal.

My experience is that it depends alot on what amp and pedals you have.
I owned (and still own, but no longer use) a cheap Strat copy with 3 single coils in it. With a program called Guitar FX Box (which I use at home, because I don't want to spend a lot of money on an amp) I could get really massive dist from them, but when I played on other ppls amps, they didn't sound all that great.

So, it depends on what other stuff you've got. But I would not say that singlecoils are bad for metal, it's just a matter of taste.

the guitar should be great, the single coils will just add to the range of tones, possibly change the humbucker to an emg or a duncan invader the guy from entombed uses them and he get a great metal sound so go for it

that guitar is more than good enough for metal, you got the 24 frets, humbucker and the double locking tremolo
you could change the pickups upon your preference, first try em out though. don't go completely on other people's conjecture and hearsay. maybe they'll turn out good.

I have that guitar, only right handed version. Since you will be using the bridge pick-up most, the Duncan humbucker get the job done well. But you will need to dial in a bit more gain than you would with an EMG or other type of high gain active pick-up(these are passive). The single coils allow you do get tones that you just can't with 2 humbuckers. You can have a nice melow sound or a punchy bassy sound with them. But you can still go back to the humbucker and go balls out.
