Shop Showoffs

I know this probably a use less thread, but does anyone really hate it when you ask to play a guitar at a music shop and they plug it in etc and start tryin to show off? Well they do that in most music shops where i live and it really pisses me off.

I think the explanation to this behaviour can be found in a signature on this forum. It says something like "no one can tell you to turn your amp volume down unless they're of higher skill than you or in your band". So what the ppl in the shop do is they play the best they can, to make you aware of the fact that they are better (if they are) so that they can tell you to turn the volume down later, without having to grab a guitar and play to convince you that they are better.

Reasonable explanation, huh?

Yeah.. actually I haven't showed off my skills in a while..

Maybe one day I'll just head over to the Sam-Ash and act like a complete newbie.. like "hey I'm looking for a guitar but I'm not really sure what I should get, you think you can help me out?"

Then when they go to pick out a piece of shit guitar from the bottom rack and plug it into one of those crappy practice amps and show off their skills I'll be like "that's cool, I don't like your style though, too choppy."

Then I'll just shred em a new asshole and make em look bad, buy a pack of strings, then leave ..

I haven't met one person yet who's better than me on guitar and I only know of 2 people on the internet who are better than me damn i'm good. But seriously...if they have the talent to show off then I wouldn't blame them for doing so. Practice and get better than the dude that showed off and then show him up. Six string sweeps always do the trick.

I suppose everybody's ego needs to be fed.

As for me, I really don't mind it.

It's when you're just browsing, and they come up to you and start to be a kibitzer that bothers me.

I hate it when some tupid punkers turn thei amps all
loud and start playing something like my grandma's farts.
The other problem with that, I can't hear what I'm playing.

i dont mind when guys show off, cause sometimes its pretty good shit, but when its 2 guitar players back to back in a band using the time in the music store to practice (you'll get this alot in the acoustic section), thats when i get pissed.

I dont like to intimidate any other bassists in the shop, so i just play some simple chili peppers stuff when there around, and when they leave, thats when ya bust out all the slappy, tappy, poppy, everything hard stuff, mainly my own written songs.

What is even cooler is to go into a music store, pcik up THE most expensive guitar you can find (something like a Jackson KE2 (list price around $3000 i think)) and plug it into a really great amp, and then sit down, think for a while, and start putting your fingers on the fretboard, trying to a form an E minor chord. Strum the guitar, and say like "oh, fuck, why cant I remeber that fucking chord", and try again. Keep doing this until someone in the shop gets really pissed at you and asks you to leave.... hehe

Yeah, I'm a supreme metalhead!!!

it'd be funny like shit to go in there, plug into a marshall full stack with a fender strat (get the most expensive one possible), turn the shit up loud, and just play nothing but open strings, maybe play some fucked up solo. Also, go in there with a headband on, and say your jimi hendrix.

I was at some local music shop around here and I saw this dude, about 18 or 19, that was plugging in an Ibanez and the employee said "what's the music style you play" (cause he was going to set the amp for the customer dude). The guys like "I play a lot of shred" ...when he's all set up he fucks up the intro to Purple Haze.

Heh, yeah I'm only 14 yet, and I get $95 per month (child subsidy thing payed to all parents, my parents choose to give the money directly to me), of which I use like $55 per month on bus rides (to closest bigger city), food (school's food isn't allways good enough), clothes, stuff. Having recently used $400 on a guitar, I'm kinda broke right now. I just can't find any work that I'm allowed to do (child work laws...) that pays enough to make it worth it....
