most metal bands now days are so studio-polished and use all sorts of extra equipment to make it sound that way. wuts some really raw metal bands? u know, that their equipment sounds like shit. like its a garage band. thats one thing i like about punk bands----its so raw. wuts some metal bands that sound like that?

Get Darkthrone
Even the new album named Hate them (realeased 3.4.2003) is unpolished. You could also try older Darkthrone, older Dimmu Borgir(stormblåst and For all tid), Burzum, Mayhem(not the bullshit made the laste years with no original members), Immortal and Troll("Drep de kristne" is the only good album)

Dimmus enthrone and spiritual are also pretty unpolished (believe it or not). And stormblåst was supposed to be more like enthrone, but due to some mastering problems it came out the way it did (which is really dark and nice).
But PEM can go suck my salty nuts for all i care, Its cool to listen to once in a while, but goddamn!
Too twisted vocals and a bit too powerful to be black metal ...
Older Satyricon (Everything before Rebel Extravaganza), Old Mans Child (before revelation 666) is good old metal.

get pretty much anything Black Metal. It sounds raw, yet shitty sounding, yet cool. Try some Mayhem or Darkthrone or Carpathian Forest or Graveland or Marduk or Immortal or Emperor.

Also try some Judas Iscariot, Clandestine Blaze, Black Witchery, Archgoat, Blasphemy, Godless North, Revenge and Mystifier. Some
are more accomplished musicians then others, such as Revenge and Mystifier, which might not be exactly what you are looking for, but
they all have the raw, primitive feel which is the essence of Black Metal.

Emperor was actually teched up to make it sound that way- their album production is actually a HELL OF A LOT better than most of the old black metal bands.

Old Gorgoroth is pretty fuckin raw, and if you listen to the drumming on the first two songs of Under The Sign Of Hell, you'll notice that there are some tech problems

But actually all Gorgoroth is pretty raw, except that they have added stupid ambient noises and backwards talking (Destroyer and Incipit Satan). Most people hate Gorgoroth because of this, but if you actually listen to the music, it is composed EXTREMELY well- Infernus a great BM guitarrist, great riffs.

i heard the new band "eat the day" with west boreland is pretty heavy and raw sounding. anybody know of this? since its with wes, it prolly sux.

I agree, raw sounding stuff, not the epitome of metal though... be sure to check out some black metal if you like that super-raw stuff.. it's not for me, but just check some of the mentioned bands.

yeah, zeke kicks ass. but id never think about saying that here. i consider them a punk band; not metal. but theyre just another kickass epitaph band. thats one reason why im a little more into punk than metal.

Anything after Blizzard Beasts by Immortal has the VERY polished Abyss Studios sound. Also, only after before Anthems is unpolished by Emperor. Anthms has a raw sound but it is very clear. Eyehategod is like the best raw sounding, unpolished band around.
