Bass Amp Needed! - Suggestions?
I need a very Loud, Chunky, (With Treble) sounding bass amp, Like i said acouple of threads ago, i have just done my first gig, and more gigs have been racked up for us guys, So, im needing a bass amp in between 80-150 watts, Yeah, I have looked at a lot of amps, So here they all are, If you dont agree with any of the below then Please suggest your own brand, or link, Thanks!!
(And i was gonna put this in gear, but i thought fuck it, This is more related to bass, and most people who visit gear are guitarists, and they cant help, cept Def )
http://www.warwickbass.com/amps/amps09.htm - yeah this one maybe 210 watt but i can go over the Volume limit, mwaha.
http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isear...=PB100-10&P1=BA - This one looks a bit small, but it says 100watt, please keep in mind i know nothing about amps, my currant amp is a Leem 25watt son of a cunt.
I know people say Marshall amps are only great for guitar, and shit sounding on bass, but ill put this up here anyway, just to reflect your view.
http://www.marshallamps.com/images/...vba/vbc412.html - and this bitch is 400 watts, but i'd still use it at a medium volume
Anyway if you have any other Bass amp suggestions on what i should get, then please post back, cheers

yeah i know im a guitarist but i think you have good line up of amps there
i would be torn between the marshall and the warwick
marshall
looks good sounds like its real good quality
dont like the idea of the wheels underneath they dont look stable
warwick
nice and compact twin speaker nice looking stands out well
i would probably go for the warwick

Yeah thats what i was thinking aswell...but i dunno about the tone, the warwicks are really punchy sort of trebled amps, not that chunky..
There was a laney bass amp, but i couldnt find it on the net..so i didnt put any link..

How many € are 1 pound?
The warwick amp cost 975€. But warwick amps sound great.
I've got an Marshall bass amp. Just 65 Watt. It sounds good as long as you don't increase the volume too much. So 400W will solve this problem. And Marshall bass amps sound excellent with guitars!!!!!!
SWR does good amps, but quite expensive. Search for the "workman series" it'S cheaper.
Search for "Nemesis". That'S the cheap brand of EDEN. And EDEN sounds like eden. Right, Def?
Hartke is another good brand and they make quite cheap amps aswell.

DON'T get the marshall!
they're good for guitars but their bass amps sound like shit... you can get better things for your money....
SWR, Laney, Eden, Hughes And Kettner, Trace Elliot, Ashdown, Ampeg, they're all better.
About the Warwicks, I think their amps sound to low-end, too much bottom, just like their basses, but that's just an opinion.
most important question, What kinda sound are you looking for?!

and another question came to my mind, u lookin for amp + cab? or a combo?
for both i suggest Peavy. I use Peavey for more than 10 years now and i was always happy with them. It is our main bass amp supplier in our store here, so i could tell you quite a lot about them. Though i have to admit 250£ isn't that much...
i suggest you save your money and buy an amp that will last for at least 3 years or so.
buyin a low price, low powered combo now, i think u will regret that in about a year or so. that is of course if u keep doing gigs, and the crowds getting bigger. I know only of a very few combos for about 250 that will give you what you want, and youre still able to fire up a house with ~500-1000 ppl.
Anyways have a look at these, they might be a lil over your price limit, but well worth it. and if ur startin your career now
Peavey BAM 210 Stu Hamm plays these...good sound, and quite a lot of punch
Peavey TNT115 i can speak highly of the tnt series, affordable workhorses, though it isn't the most powerful combo out there
now for the more expensive stuff
Peavey Firebass This is my overall favorite. I use the Firebass for 3 years now and i'm very happy with it...affordable, very powerful (those 700W can kick ass) and easy to handle
Peavey Nitrobass The little Brother of the Firebass. comes with 300W max output and misses some features of the Firebass
the main drawback of these two is of course, that u need some good cabs to get the most out of them. personally i use the Peavey (yah i do sound like a peavey salesman alright ) Black Widow Series. but any other cab will work with Peavy, although there is a wide spread rumor, that they don't
anyways, jus my 2 cent

Agreed, the Firebass is nice, it packs a punch.
But it's pretty much a matter of taste, I'm not a big fan of peavey bass amps, I like their guitar amps better... its not that they're bad or anything, but its just the tone I don't really like.
I played on a mesa boogie walkabout bass top+mesa cab yesterday... damn, that's nice, but a bit too expensive for me...

why warwick? I played some yesterday... they're nice, but there's better out there.
and well, peavey has a really good value on their amps, most bangs for bucks so to speak... anyways, I'll stick to my H&K anyday

well i didn't know Heckler&Koch builds bass amp these days
as you said, it's a matter of taste. say two bassmen, with exactly the same equipment, test an amp. They both will have different opinions, but hey thats fine, would be boring if everyone would play the same amp
what i still don't really know is, what kind of music tat wants to get out of it. would be helpful to know that...

as i said, it might be worth to save your money for a time, and then buy some bigger, better amp with it
i don't want u to think u should buy expensive amps, but i got it quite often on work here, that some1 is unhappy with an amp he bought a year ago "it's too small" "it ain't got the punch anymore", i hear that quite often...
therefore i always tell customers to really think if that amp they bought is good enough, not only for now, but for the future. i think one is better of if he saves money for half a year or a year and then buys an amp to which he'll stick for 3-5 years, or he buys something he can afford RIGHT NOW and then be unhappy with it in a few months...
now i don't wanna sound like nostradamus or some sort of messiah, but: hear ye hear yeee, save yer moneeey

hehe well then what about...err...now im f*cked...what's that in english..err I'll take that from my dictionary, so don't blame me if i sound like an oxford snob
what about deferred payment? u know i got my first real amp like that...it cost like 500€ that time and i spend 100€ a month and got it then...might be worth of thinking about it in your situation.
also i have to say u must have a regular income of some sort. but i still think that is the best way for younger (or poorer ) ppl to get what they want...

LOL, yeah I read that, but I was more implying the size, cab, top etc...
anyways, if you want LOUD, you need to save up for a Firebass
or you could kill me and steal my Hughes and Kettner 400w tube with cabs. nah, don't do that
I can't tell you shit about the Peavey amp, except that the peaveys I played where all good value for their money, I didn't think they sounded exciting (but I'm an ass when it comes to tone!)
ohyeah I played on Stu Hamm's bass yesterday in Musik Productiv (german music store) lol, they told me I could take anything of the wall and play it, how was I supposed to know I couldn't play the signatured one's, lol.....

i know a lot about all those amps... i work in ontario music ontario, california.
i personally own a carvin pb100-15 not pb100-10 but if you buy the pb100-10 you can basically get away with paying less money for something the exact same as another model. now i dont know about british money and how you convert it to american but if you want a best buy them buy the pb100-10 because its about $279 american. its a nice 100 watt package and youll say it was worth it if you decide to purchase it.

Tatter3d, since you buy this amp to be able to do gigs properly, ask the other guys in the band if they'd be willing to lend you some money for the amp. I mean, it's their band too, so they will also hear comments about the bass being drowned, so they should care. Of course, I know nothing of your or the bands financial situation, but I think it might be worth a try.

I don't know about anyone else but I really like Gallen Kruegers. The Backline models, even the small ones, give off an awesome sounds, at least in the store with a cheap yamaha they did.
