"The Weatherman's Forecast"

Last week without knowing
The weatherman's melodic forecast
Became an Irishman's winter song
He says
It's as cold as two below zero
I continue
It's as frigid as the first degree
It's as cold as two below zero
No honey running through the maple tree

The rhodie outside my window
Supreme indicator of accurate thermo-meterings
Coiled even tighter from cigarlike tendrils
Into pencils for wee hands
According to wisened-heimer
Enlightened and grossly enlightening
Like anatomy of chilled masculinity
Please, leave your trousers on

Down in the west Texas town of El Pantzo
It had to be warmer than it be rat cher
So, to make the walls seem warmer
I drift into the outer limits in the nether regions
Where giant children dare not go
For fear of creepy eyed invisibles
The radon cleansing atmosphere of drafty cellar
To gather bread and meat from the freezer

Wisened-heimer asks,
"Why, when you're constantly cold,
Do you chose to live here again? "
Careful ponderating I reply,
"We come from sturdy stock."

When nightfalls dips temperatures down farther
And chill wall effect is felt three steps from the landing
I climb under a comforter,
2 cotton and one ancient wool blanket,
A flowered flannel sheet, a cotton sheet
Garbed in t shirt, flannel shirt, and sweatpants with wool socks
To listen to hubby's accurate single syllable summation - Cold
And remember it could be much worse
And it will be in August as usual
