Must be a very close family you've got going there
My trip to Montreal was sweet, it was awesome being able to order a beer with all my meals. I'm turning 21 in a few weeks so I made an effort to go drink in Canada before I was legal to drink here in the US. My girl was a champ, she was down to drink with me every time we stopped It was fun being around all the French speakers, took some getting used to though. I'm sure all you euro dudes are more broken in to different languages but it's like a completely fucking different world to me. Unless you count the random Quebec tourists stopping down and the Mexican community that rolls in to work here during the tourist season, I don't hear much foreign language spoken. I refreshed what little French I knew and learned some more trying to read my way through all the damn restaurant menus.
There were a bunch of cool record shops there but basically every album that I was interested in buying was in the $20 range I'd rather order from an online shop and save my money. The fucking people there too, I love it. We were sitting in this little park/chilling area and some dude came and sat down, broke up some weed in his hand, rolled a joint and casually smoked it in front of everyone. Then the next night, an elder man came into the bar and rolled a joint right on the counter, went outside and smoked it I can't imagine ever seeing anything like that in my area, it was great.

Sounds like a cool place to visit!
You should visit Amsterdam, you can just walk into a store, buy some pre-rolled joints and walk out smokin'.
21 is a stupid age to make drinking legal, it's not like you haven't been drinking yet right?
Over here it's legal when you're 16+ and you can get a driving licence at 18.
I guess it just doesn't make sense to me that you can get your driving licence before you are allowed to have a beer...

I`d love to have a few beers in a really good pub there and , holy crap, 200 different beers sound extremely good. I`ll throw Utrecht in the decision-pot. Would also be cool to hang out with you in a pub. Is it expensive there? I mean we are all studets and our budget is quite small.
Ah and just for your interest this is a pic of the beach where I spent several summers
bitch...ehm beach
|
It's cheap compared to Amsterdam. Because Amsterdam is a tourist dump. Prices in the city centre are through the roof. People from Amsterdam don't even go there
Utrecht isn't like Amsterdam, it's smaller and a real student-town with loads of restaurants and pubs. Beer prices are still normal here. Utrecht does have canals and canalboats like Amsterdam has. Hell, if I walk onto my balcony I can see them passing by.

We`ll come to drink our asses off and smoke some johnnys not to make such things like canalboating Sounds nice, of course, but that would be something for a family trip.
Buuuuuuut, I heard that foreigners can`t buy stuff at the coffeeshops anymore?

I would gladly trade everything I've learnt about playing metal over the past 10 years to be a half-decent flamenco player. I suppose the thing to do would have been to learn flamenco instead of the And Justice For All album...
Fuck.

Did I say canalboating? I meant analboating, ofcourse!
If they hear you're a foreigner they can give you a hard time, yeah. It's because they get all kind of trouble with the American kids coming over and gettin' stoned as fuck. They get hit by a bus or other moving objects every now and then. The coffee shop owners don't want to be associated with that.
I guess with a German accent you'll be okay.

Forgot to mention; yesterday at work, this customer who looks like santa rolled up in his motor cart and was asking me some stuff, and whenever I need to think I look away from the person. Well, I decided to look down, and what I saw was his balls hanging out of his shorts; one hanging out one side, the other hanging out the other one. I'm just minding my business cleaning shelves and I have to go and have my retinas scarred with Santa's balls.

It's a remarkable talent! He's somehow weirder than me, mostly due to his lack of social skills. He's also 6'4" and just a massive guy, which makes it funnier.
I want to spread that video around.

That was a pretty beastly scream too, he should do black metal vocals.

I don't think anyone, no matter how grim, wants to listen to an air-raid siren sounding over their music.

I lost the key to my capslock so I tried smashing it open with a hammer which didn't work and just ended up breaking it.

Judging from some of the hideous black metal i've heard, anything is possible. Those vocals could cause select listeners to seek immediate medical attention from having an erection lasting more than 4 hours.

Just finished doing music for a commercial: http://vimeo.com/12271394
Its for some nice horse training ranch. Apparently that shit they're doing is pretty slick.

Yes, it is. A good reining horse is worth it's weight in gold and sometimes that can be literal in an arena. The stopping on a dime and pivoting in place is pretty much a trained thing that's all controlled by slight hand movement of the reins and legs of the rider. It appears they breed and have vets on premises, too. Loved the little foals kicking up their heels. That brought back memories of my filly, Snowflake. As for the score you did, I liked it. It had a Ry Cooder sound to it and would have fit in a Sackett movie or other western. Nice job on that.
It was nice to see Snotsdale again. Bob and I went there years ago when we went to Phoenix. There's a lot of horses there and it's very high dollar.

Thanks LB, apparently they're in love with it.
The dude who shot it got to ride some of the horses and he said they're so incredibly easy to maneuver its unbelievable. It was his first time on a horse, too.
I hear Scotsdale is pretty fucking horrid in an upper-class suburban hell kind of way.

Never thought I'd agree with LBs on anything, but that is some Ry Cooder reminiscent shit right there.
My uncle lives in Scotsdale. It is hell on Earth. Almost as bad as where you live.

I've never heard anything by Ry Cooder, but I'm digging some of what I'm hearing right now and I hear what you mean - heavy slide guitar... 'cept, I'm better. HARK.

Ry played with Captain Beefheart, back in the day. Maybe just for Safe as Milk, though. When he was like 17.

Fuck, nice work mate. It sounds professional whilst still being something less than conventional, if that makes sense, and I know it does 'cause I wrote it and wouldn't have posted it otherwise, so you can fuck off if you disagree. All of that was a compliment on your fine work, in case you were wondering.
Did you play the guitars yourself or program them with VST whatnots?

Yeah, I read that yesterday. I've only heard Safe as Milk once though and I don't remember being crazy about it.. but that was when if it wasn't Trout Mask or Ice Cream for Crow I wouldn't have it.

Tanks, I gotcha. That's what I was going for. VST guitars? Helllsss no, I played them. The only VSTs were the drums and flute.

Bloody fannies, that's some nice playin' there Mr. Dylderton. You're a man of many talents, my favourite of which is your ability to dump a lump in my face without waking me.
Congrats on your burgeoning music career, and if you ever need the loan of a 10+ year old Squier Strat just holler at me, yo.

Okay, now ya got me listening to Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal. I was looking on youtube for a version of "Jesse James" Ry did with slide, but I couldn't find it. Eh. I've got The Long Riders, Slide Vamp in D, and Waltz for Django, Feelin' Sad Blues, Cajun Metal, and Brothers on an old cd. I can't remember for sure which had the most slide on them, but they're all good songs. "Dust My Broom" with Ry and Taj is great! I think the one I have is a studio version.
There was a bar/restaurant in Scottsdale called "Big Dick's" and an old b/f got me a shirt from there which I never wore that said "I like Big Dick's." Had I known I'd be on a forum like this I bet I could have made some money selling it to one of you guys. There was a lot of adobe houses out there with a lot of adobe fences around them. The shops were either cheap crap or stuff you could buy a new car for in Ohio.
You did very well on the tune. How did you get involved doing commercial music?

I've scored a couple little things before and my mother, who is an aspiring script writer, met this dude (at some contest) who I did the commercial with and he owns and runs a production company. She dropped my name, told her to have me e-mail him, I did and showed him some of my work, liked it, and then viola.

meeting people = success.
My family knows David Newman (Thomas Newman's brother) quite well because of movie-related stuff, so I'm going to be interning with him within the next year. That's probably the best connection I've made so far, and its just from actually going ahead and getting in contact with them.
Just have to remember that all these people are REAL and they will probably respond to your e-mails.

Wait... you aren't even 18 yet? I'm beyond confused if that's true. You were at least 20 when we met, so maybe you've aged backwards a bit?

Buying stocks in Bobbiyears is like buying porn futures. Sure, you'll probably get your money's worth, but you'll just end up a salty, wrinkly bag of loose skin by the end.
Yeah, I have NO idea what that means.

Got away with quite a bit of thrashing, even though the weekend was less than perfect thanks to some bad news I got the minute before we left (father passed away).

Wolf, I'm sorry for your loss mate. You're a good guy and I hope you get through it.
You're usually in my thoughts already, but from here on you'll be in them fully dressed (out of respect)

Wolf... I've never been through anything like that. I can't imagine what that's like, but I'm wishing you the best to make it through this.

Thanks for all the kind words, really (does) quite a lot.
And yeah I'll be fine, for the moment it's mostly just weird.

Anyway I`ve never seen that much hate thrown at me for wearing a shirt that says "I am not Germany" (there was this campaign called "You are Germany" to get back to the old standards ) during the World-championship. I hate the colors black, red and gold in combination since 2006 but this year is a total overkill on nacionalism here. Man I'll die of hypertension when this will go on

I was filling in a survey today (don't ask) and I came to (ha) the following question:
http://i50.tinypic.com/27ywb9.png
Am I alone in finding the third option to be profoundly confusing? It's like saying "the females in my home may or may not be pregnant. They might be but just didn't tell me, or they might be but aren't even aware of it themselves, or they aren't and had nothing to tell me in the first place."
Fuck me, I'm just glad I don't smoke cannabis otherwise I don't think I'd ever have gotten passed that question.

I guess its technically possible, if they're fertile, that any female in your house could be pregnant at any time unbeknownst to you or her, so 'C' would actually be the correct answer.

I don't think I ever formally thanked you for showing me Baby Cakes. I'm deeply in love with him.
